Three Bad Calls Decides the Game Three bad calls decided this game! 1. 5th Foul on McGrady - barely any contact, 90% of the time is obvious a no call. It is espcially not the kind of call a "superstar" like Kobe or Nowtizki would get. 2. Nowtizki should've fouled out - Nowitzki should've picked up his sixth foul when he slapped Yao in the face. Instead they gave that call to Howard, who was at least 4 feet away from the play. 3. The inbounds play - Finley comes in from OUT OF BOUNDS to knock the ball away. Such an easy call. There was no obstruction, the refs blew that one obviously. I'm generally not one to complain about the officiating, but that was a disgrace.
Oh, let's not forget the phantom foul on Padgett. WTF. Again, I'm not a homer. Heck, I was a Laker fan who became a YAO who just recently became a Rox fan. I'm pretty objective about these things, and this is clearly the worst officiated game I've ever seen.
Actually #2 I didn't see a foul by either Mavs but I glady accepted it. I was mad when they called offensive foul on Yao Ming when they should have called a foul on Henderson...we were coming back and that turned the tide..we had to sit Yao out..when we could have come back and taken over. And then that last call..just sad horrible wow. And yeah Tmac didn't even foul him on that one...funny..they call that one but they don't call the ones with a lot of contact involving Tmac and Dirk...where Tmac fouls..which was good for us. Also..Terry he probably fouled Wesley on that fast break..but it looked like he stuffed Wesley. I'd like to thank the refs again for screwing up. It's not entirely their fault though..we should have made free throws.. Yeah there were times when ourguys were hit on layups and there was no call. What's up with that
Man, look, we had chances dispite all of this ****. Bottom line, Van Gundy wasted his $100,000, because it ain't do no damn good.
I am livid. Absolutely livid. That is the single most egregious example of officiating I have ever seen. The incompetence not only rivals the terrible call where Malone bearhugged us to get Stockton free in '97, it EXCEEDS IT by several orders of magnitude. I am in shock. I am in disbelief. I am horrified and ABSOLUTELY LIVID. It actually looks like Van Gundy may be onto something -- it is seriously appearing that the NBA has permitted Mark Cuban to intimidate the officials so much that it has decided the game. HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY MISS THAT FINLEY WAS OUT OF BOUNDS? He was ENTIRELY out of bounds. It a tiny piece of sneaker out of bounds, it was a tiny piece of his hand that was IN BOUNDS! What the bloody hell?
Don't forget the hooking by Terry on James when Daniels threw that horrible pass...there was a reason MJ was on the ground. But Dallas hit a lot of big shots, sure the refs blew a lot of calls but if Yao shot his FT average and Tmac shot a reasonable percentage we would've won. The Mavs played some good D for most of the night, you got to give them that.
The problem with the fouls (or at least what I see is the biggest problem) is the most stupid calls either caused a momentum shift or r****ded the Rockets momentum. When they waved off Yao's basket in the fourth quarter in houston, the rockets remained only 8 points ahead instead of 11 (Yao was fouled on the play) and that was the beginning of rocks scoring drought...Tonight, just when the rockets got going, down by 3, Finley slaps the ball out of Barry's hands from out of bounds. Mavericks get the ball back and score...ridiculous...That was crucial. Still, for as good as the Mavericks are, they sure come close to losing every game. Gives me hope that the Rockets - now with their backs against the wall - can concentrate, pull it all together and win...
I think the refs are retaliating against the Rockets. Did you see David Stern's expression whe he talked about how JVG will receive further punishment from the league. I half expected him to tent his fingers and say "exxxxcelent."
I want to call up David Stern and demand a refund. This has got to be one of the worst reffed finishes in the history of playoff basketball. Here is a list of the calls the refs blew, and all against the Rockets in the last 3 minutes: 1) Finley out of bounds. 2) Barry called for the foul on Stackhouse when neither of them has the ball and both are diving for it. 3) Foul 6 on Dirk. Switching the foul to the other guy has got to be one of the most gutless calls I have seen. It was obviously Dirk. 4) Phantom foul call on Padgett. Refs bail out the Mavs when they are trapped. One bad call I can take. 4 bad calls means somebody needs to get fired.
cuban bought em out. thats what happens when you have a billionare owner, willing to spend. and whine, and cry, and moan.
I thought it was a late call. But even without the foul, Jon Barry had the ball and we would've had a transition break. The Finley play was one of the most egregiously bad calls I've seen- in the final 5 minutes of a close game in a tied series is just flat out pathetic. Jon Barry's foot was freaking inches from the baseline- where in the world could Finley have possibly been?!?!!? It wasn't like he had a toe on the baseline- His whole freaking body was out of bounds. We're going to have a lot of ammunition of the refs calling garbage without actually seeing something after that Padgett play. The McGrady call was extremely weak (how much more daylight between the two did the refs need?!?), but the Padgett call was the very definition of a phantom foul. I like ticked off Yao though (other than the FT shooting).
I've Had Enough I've Had Enough Honestly guys there must be a conspiracy going on around here. Yes we missed free throws but there were so many bad or missed calls by the refs. #1 With 17 seconds left we TRAPPED Finley in the corner and they called a foul. #2 When Yao got the rebound late in the game and was surrounded by Mavs players it was Nowitzki who should have gotten his 6th FOUL but it was Howard who was called for it. #3 When Mcgrady was called for his 5th foul, It looked as though he barely even touched Nowitzki. #4 Probably the biggest missed call in this Game was when Barry got the rebound and Finley came out of bounds to knock it out of his hands. This game seriously depressed me and its starting to piss me off that we are getting called for a bunch BS. If Van Gundy said that comment about a ref, then there is probably a big chance that he is right. I've had enough with the refs that I honestly don't think I can watch the next game. I'll probably just refresh the scoreboard online. Why should I help NBA ratings when they're not playing fair!
$20 in the tipjar for the first post of an image of Benit Salvatore or any other ref in this game in Mav's blue and aquamarine (or whatever the f*** it is) stripes. Thinking it through, you might not even need photoshop - they may dress that way when they come to Houston. I thought I'd seen everything that time Clyde picked up 2 technicals in like 3 secs in the playoffs for doing nothing and then smiling about it. This tops it. This is bad - Carl Roaches Inadvertent Whistle bad. Mike Reinfeldt with two feet in the endzone while the ref signals OOB bad. Seriously. They shouldn't bother playing the games if the fix is in.
That's a good point. I understand that refs aren't perfect and they make mistakes. I can also accept the fact (as every Rox fan has accepted) that Dallas will get more calls than us. What I CANNOT accept is that all these horrible calls were made against us at the END of the game while the game was on the line.
The refs did miss that play with Barry, but it could have easily been prevented if Barry had held the ball in a more secure position. He had the ball hanging out there ready for someone to take it right away from. Why he did not craddle that ball I'll never know.
