Boys charged with abuse in cat's stoning By KEVIN MORAN Houston Chronicle GALVESTON -- Seven boys stoned a cat to death as it hung by a back leg from a wooden fence, police said. The female black cat was missing her right front leg and was already dead when Galveston police Officer Joel Caldwell and several other patrolmen arrived in an alley in the 3800 block of Avenue M about 6:50 p.m. Sunday. Six of the boys were charged with felony animal abuse. Five of them are 10 years old and one is 11, police said. The seventh boy is 8, too young under state law to be charged, police said. "What amazes me the most is the savagery these kids displayed," Caldwell said. "They showed no remorse for the cat at all. They had remorse for getting caught by the police." Caldwell, who investigates animal abuse cases for the Galveston department, said it is unclear how the cat ended up hanging from the fence or exactly how its leg was torn off. Lori Alexander, a veterinary technician at the Galveston Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, said the center's staff frequently sees animal neglect cases but has not handled such a serious act as that committed Sunday. While the boys appeared unremorseful, their parents were shocked at the incident and cooperated with police, Caldwell said. The boys, who have no previous criminal record, were released to parents late Sunday pending setting of a juvenile court hearing. The boys all admitted being present while the cat was tortured but each denied participating, Caldwell said. A person whose home overlooks the alley in which the cat died told police all the boys were throwing stones at the cat before it died. Police had no motive for the killing. "We don't know whether one of them thought it would be a neat thing and the others just joined in or what," Caldwell said. "What will they be like when they're 17?" Under juvenile law, the boys could be committed to the Texas Youth Commission until they turn 18 if convicted. But Caldwell said it is more likely they will be placed on probation if found guilty. ======================== bastards!
There are two things that trouble me about this. One, these are kids. Not even pre-teens. Two, the ruthlessness of the kids in killing the defenseless cat. I'm sickened by this story. This is so vile. I just couldn't imagine. This story is so distressing.
I third that! That is really, really sad. I hope a whole lot of karma comes round and bites those kids in the ass really hard!
That's why I hate it so much when people use the excuse that "oh, they are just kids" or the "oh, they are just teenagers, weren't you like that once". NO, I WASN'T!!! I can't wait till the punishment is passed down, by that time someone is going to say "The punishment is too harsh, these are just kids and it's just an animal not like they were killing a human being". Sick Bastards!!!! It really pisses me off reading about this (the cat killing).
It hurts my heart to read about things like this. I feel so sad for the cat that had to suffer. And I also feel so sad for these children because they haven't been taught to value all kinds of life. I still hold out hope for them though. Maybe somehow, through this incident, the children will be able to realize respect for other lives. That's the best outcome to this sad episode that I can envision.
Now THAT I agree with. There's simply not enough corporal punishment these days. When I was that age, I didn't hear a fraction of the things told to me. It went in one ear and out the other. I may have heard the words; hell, I may have been able to regurgitate them back to you---but I didn't hear the meaning and the message. Of course, if you took a belt to my backside, I paid attention to that. Touch stove, get burned. Kill cat, get beat. Later, as I laid there sniveling with my ass cooling off, I could contemplate WHY it's bad to kill a cat.
It was just a cat, not like it was a dog or something. DD PS. I know, levity is sometimes not welcome. Someone will enivitably blame it on video games.
LOL, a dog person speaks! But seriously folks, this is the fault of the parents of the children. They should be held accountable for their kid's behavior. Maybe if the children could witness the public humiliation and punishment of their parents, they would think twice about their anti-social behavior. After that, then cane 'em.
I heard the cat was porkin one of the boy's sister or was it their mom, either way it clearly got what it deserved evil little sh its
I'll teach those kids a lesson. Stick a needle in their arms and they'll be with the cat in minutes. Unfortunately, we don't punish animal abusers in this state. It's a severe crime to abuse a child or woman, but rip an animal apart and u walk free...f that
Do what I do. Go outside...take a deep breath...get down in a sprinters stance...and try to chase down one of those nasty evil squirrels. If you catch him beat the tarnations out of him. Always makes me feel whole again.
As punishment, I think a chosen cat lover should be allowed to throw a stone twice at each one of those boys. This will teach them: a.) how it feels to be hit by a rock b.) what they did was inhumane c.) leave the f*cking stones on the ground where they belong.
