    Hello All,

Has anyone been to Galveston post-Ike? The family is planning a trip and before we head down I just wanted to know the situation of the beaches. I have a couple of young nephews and wouldn't want to subject them to any danger.

And yes, I know Galveston water is "dirty".

    Regards.

    :)

I'm curious as well, but more for which beaches are the better/best/coolest beaches. I wanna take my girl to the beach and I haven't been there in forever.

I prefer East Beach whenever we go. At least you can bring beer.

Drive to Destin or Gulf Shores already, you can get a house for nothing there this summer.

I'm currently sitting in the living room of a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath beachfront condo in Santa Rosa Beach for $1200 per 8 nights. Free wireless, shared pool, and blue water off white beaches.

Yeah its 9 hours away but hell, you're a Houstonian, you're used to sitting in you car.

I have been there once a week for the past 5 weeks with my gf..she loves the beach so we just drive down to galveston. We park at Stewart beach, the beach is good condition, plenty of people and clean for the most part..Go for it, your kids will sure have a good time

Destin or Gulf Shores in 9 hours? maybe in a helicopter. Pascagoula is an easy 9-10 hours from Houston.

i was there last sunday, it has recovered well. the water was murky brown but warm enough to swim in, and the sand was decent.

Its not bad. Rented a house close to San Luis beach and it was pretty fun. Went to Crystal Beach and that was fun also.

We went on memorial weekend. Right off the sea wall, we thought it was great.

Last year, my wife's cousin drove here with his family and wanted to go to Galveston.

One of his kids got stung by a Portugese Man-o'-War. It seems that those things are all over Galveston all summer long.

    I hate Galveston.

When my dad was a kid, they were at Galveston, and not knowing, he picked up a Portugese Man-o'-War over his head, held it there, and said, "Look Mom, A Beach Ball!" I think he was like 5.

They had to fly him into Shriner's hospital where he was packed on ice for quite a while.

Anyways, my brother is at Galveston for the weekend. They're going deep-sea fishing (I'm jealous.....never been....always wanted to) tomorrow.

    Funny.

When I was about that age, I ran up to one on the beach thinking it was a big thing of Jell-O or something. Stuck my hand straight into it. My mom swooped me up and jammed my hand down into some wet sand (she's a nurse so I guess that was supposed to help). Anyway, it sucked pretty bad from what I remember. No hospital visit though.

I JUST went to the beach off San Luis Pass right before the bridge. The water was warm, the beach was clean, and the sand was soft.
