Hi all. I hope this thread would fit in GARM... and if it isn't... admin please move it to where it belong. thanx in advance. :)

As quite several of the executives are Rocket fans, the University of Waterloo Mandarin Students Union (UWMSU) is organizing a group event to cheer for the Rockets vs. Raptors game in Toronto in November 16th (Sunday).

If anyone is from Kitchener/Waterloo area in Canada, Ontario, you are welcome to contact us and take advantage of the group tickets price. The tickets we got is for Lower Bowl Endzone @$75 each (single tickets is about $83). You can contact us at y2tao@uwaterloo.ca :)

and for everyone else, I just would like to ask for some suggestions about this outing, since none of the organizers has been to a Raptors regular season game before...

any informations about what is allowed and what is not allowed in the stadium, or any specific details we should pay attention to would be very very appreciated.

also, please give us some suggestion for some banners... We are having some headache coming up with a good one ourself, and where else could be better to ask this kind of suggestions? :)

and no, please don't dish raptors... as much fellow chinese as we are expecting to see that day in ACC, it's probably not a good idea to dish the only Canadian team on its home soil. lol

    --thanx in advance for everyone.

You are asking people to go to a raptors home game and inquiring what you can and cannot do in the raptors stadium. So I think it would make more sense to post on a raptors forum. ;)

lol. true... except that I really don't think there's any raptors forum close to what we have here in clutchcity...

hmm... let me change the question then. what is allowed/not allowed in Compaq/Toyota center? I'm hoping NBA stadium has similar rules about those kind of things? :D

or... I'm hoping there would be enough canadian fans like macbeth hanging around to answer those raptors related questions.

or... I'm just hoping to get some idea for the banner thing indeed.

or... I'm just trying to get my post count up. ;)

First of all, I'd like to say the ticket price is not good at all!
The arena should have relationships with many compaines and offer much cheaper tickets. Like in my city, I can get NBA tickets (can buy as tickets as you want) for only 40% the normal price, because of the agreement between my company and the arena (?, or whatever). Maybe only large companies get such discount. I don't know. But check to see any of your friends working in Toronto and see if their employers have any good stuff.

thanx for the remainder. but I doubt if those companies would have enough tickets to accomodate such a group events though. :)

as far as I know, U of Carleton (from ottawa -- yes, that's 6 freaking bus hours away) is having 150 students going to the game. and as the expected crowd in kitchener/waterloo a bit smaller, it's probably still a bit too much to fit into any company's "extra tickets" holes. :D

but really, thanx for that. I'll surely enquire about that around.

Actually we still buy tickets directly with arena (via web, via phone, etc.), not through the employer. They might ask you to show your company access ID. But at many times, they just don't care.
However, I think I missed one thing. Many deals between the arena and companies only offer package tickets (e.g., season tickets, or 10-game plan, etc.), not just a single game. You might have problem with this if you only want to watch one or two games.

keep_rudy, to keep things in perspective, it's 75 Canadian dollars. I also don't think MLE offers too many company discounts.

I'd say bring a lot of food and drinks. I used to live in Toronto and been to quite a few Raptors games. A hotdog at the ACC costs around 4 bucks. Domestic beer 5+, imported 6+. Pizza slice 4. ACC is about 5 mins walk from Union Station and is almost smack in the middle of Toronto's banking district (RBC center, First Scotia place, Ernst and Young Tower, etc). Basically around game time (I'm assuming later than 7:30) everything closes and if you want to get cheap food fast you'd have to walk about 10-15 mins north to the Eaton Center. Now I don't know if you want to do that with 100+ people. You'll need food after 1 1/2 hr trip and 2 hr game before the return trip.

Get to the ACC I'd say an hour before the game. There'll be a flood of people coming from the subway and Union Station. I realized that though the ACC does have multiple entrances, others are generally smaller and further away from the parking lot (most people don't even know them). So to avoid a checking in nightmare, show up early.

Bannerwise, pretty much anything goes. TO fans aren't too rude (hey it's not hockey) so you won't get too bad a reception if you cheer the Rox.

Now I don't know if you're going to cheer for the Rockets or the Raptors, but I can say it's pretty easy to take Raptors fans out of the game. Sadly there would actually be more fans with the Rockets in town than there normally would be.

Forgot to say, if you have any other questions you'll have to be more specific.

wow. that's really some good detailed help~ thanx a million times MFW :)

as for cheering which side, I and a couple of other friends will probably be cheering for rockets. but from what I hear, I do expect quite a potion of chinese friends cheering for both :)eek: ) team though. lol. theoretically I think that can work if you just cheer for whoever has a nice play on the court, but how it will work out in practice... I don't know. :)

p.s. I remember seeing a "black chinese" fan on the bbs last year who was going to the rockets away game in utah. anyone remember his id? is he still around? I was hoping to find him and ask if he has any relevant experience to share. :)

again, thanx all you guys for all the inputs
