After lurking in the Hangout for a while I figured it was time to post in the big boys (and girls) forum. While the article discusses centers as a whole, it tends to focus on the impending retirement of Hakeem. Plus, it seems to support our decision to draft Ming over JWill, trades, etc.:

Yep. That article sums it up. Centers suck right now.

It's really funny when you think about it. People are saying now that Vlade is one of the best centers in the league... and they'd be right. So what exactly did he do last season? 11 points, 8 1/2 boards. Whoop-dee-doo! Joy to the world! This from one of the best in the game?

I'm still finding myself discussing teams, any teams, and saying, "yeah, but they don't really have a center." Man... I mean really, who's stealing all the centers?

Shaq really is all by himself right now... just another reason why Dream was so much better... he had competition.

One reason there are no centers today is that any big guy who's athletic moves to the 4 or even the 3 if they possibly can.

I like that part in the article where it talks about crumbs krause having curry, and chandler, and how its either dumb, or smart of him picking those two.

Most of today's big man want to be a guard. So instead of focusing on post moves, footwork and drop steps, they wanna shoot threes and throw behind-the-back passes. There are only a select few pure post players left; nowadays the best big men can be found in Europe.
