So I'm moving into a townhouse for sophmore year. I have a sort of small room. It's 12'5'' X 14'5''. But the closet was supposed to be the laundry room, but we're not going to have washer/dryer. So I was planning to keep those doors open and have more space. I am starting fresh. I am bringing no furniture of any kind. Any help? I kind of like IKEA style. I like that really white bright wood style. And I am kind of a minimalist. I like pretty plain white wood and shades of white and simple looking furniture. Not busy and colorful. Thanks. Also, I think Mrs. JB and Jeff have lots of experience with good furniture from some thread a couple of years ago. Maybe you guys could make an appearence in this thread, and make an impact on a promising youth.
Sweet. I'm moving into a townhome next weekend. check out Texas Discount Furniture. It's where I bought most of my stuff after college. Really nice and pretty solid prices.
Nomar --I think you just answered your own question. IKEA!!! Seriously, even if there's not an IKEA near you (I can't remember where you're located) at least take a look through their catalog: http://www.ikea-usa.com/catalog_online/virtual_catalog.asp They have tons of great ideas for cramming lots of storage and function into a small space. You could get some good info, even if you don't get your furniture from them. Judging from the size of your room, I'd say you can easily fit a bed, dresser, desk (might want to see if you can work that into the closet space if it's large enough) and a sitting area. My only advice to you would be not to get anything too nice or pricey at this point. Just go for affordable, basic and functional. You'll be shocked at how dramatically your tastes can change in they years after you leave school. (In my entire house, I only have one piece of furniture that I owned when I was in school. Everything else was sold or donated long ago).
Well I live here in Houston, so I could go to the IKEA store on I-10 and have them ship to Atlanta right? Also, I agree. I want a bed, dresser, and a desk. But what is a sitting area. Like a chair? For reading and stuff? And yeah, I'm going for affordable. Last thing - Let's say I get one of those sweet white wood bed frames. Where is a good store to get good matresses. Like Sealy or something?
'Hold Everything' is a slightly more expensive way to store stuff than IKEA, but they too make storing stuff look very cool. The women in your life will appreciate it. But they are a little more expensive.
Right -- just a nice comfy chair (and maybe a foot rest) with a good lamp nearby. You can use it for reading, listening to music or just relaxing. When you share a house with other people (even when it's a spouse ) it's important to have a private place to retreat to every once in a while. I think IKEA does actually ship cross-country now, so you could go that route. But find out how big the pieces are first. Since you have to assemble them, they come packed in flat boxes, so you may actually be able to drive them back to Atlanta yourself. I'm not sure where to get mattresses (I need a new one, myself). I'd probably start with the stores that specialize like The Mattress Firm and go from there. I think Gallery Furniture still sells them too -- and you can go bowling while you're there!
try Ashleys Furniture if they have one in H-Town (i've only been to the one here in Austin). a lot of nice furniture that's pretty damn cheap.
Sorry for bringing this thread back up. I can't for the life of me find a reading chair/footrest thingy combo that I like. I checked Ikea, Restoration Hardware, Crate and Barrel, BedBathBeyond. Should I be checking other places? I like big chains and popular stores. I'm not really all about discount places.
IKEA is not as cheap as they would have you believe when it comes to furniture. Everything else there is fairly inexpensive.
You might want to try www.eurway.com -- they have a pretty decent selection of chairs and matching ottomans. Unfortunately, the chairs and ottomans are listed seperately, so you have to do a little snooping to find out which goes with which. Eurway is modern stuff like IKEA and they have a location out on the west side of town.
