Just found this funny from bskball.com I can recall that in 1999, we lobbied Chicago very hard to draft Elton over Odom. I think those were the two guys they were considering. So they went with Elton. The next year, we lobbied very hard for Chicago to draft Miles and Richardson, but they wouldn't give up the seventh pick to do that, and so they gave the Clippers Miles, Richardson and Dooling. And then they gave them back Elton. So anyone who says Jerry Krause can't build a team I take issue with. I think he's done an unbelievable job building the L.A. Clippers. -From David Falk Just made me laugh. Krause is such an idiot.
He conveniantly forgot to mention Peter Gabriel who gave them Dooling, Maggette and Richardson... Falk has some controversy going with Krause---and I think it's the fact that Krause refused to trade Brand to Washington. Or: 3 Max contracts in L.A. (Brand, Odom and Miles down the road)and a luxury tax plus Richardson, Magette and Dooling? . Maybe Falk sees Brand being on the market again later on.
Peter Gabriel's an NBA general manager now? I knew it had been a while since his last album, but I didn't realize he'd started a whole new career in hoops.
Explain how. Miles was drafted ahead of the Bulls at number 3. It's not like Krause passed on him for someone else... Brand vs. Curry? Only time will tell. I don't think Jerry will be GM when we find out.
Doubtful. He's had a long and fruitful career and he's about ready for retirement (he won't be pushed into it, and he won't be fired). He's going to guide the helm just a bit longer till Curry and Chandler and Crawford go full time then he'll hand the reigns over to B.J. Armstrong.
While I agree that it wasn't Krauses fault that he didn't get Miles, I was just using Falk's/Jay's Reasoning that Krause couldnt get Miles because of his stubbornness. But IMO, Fizer, Chandler, and possibly even Crawford(Although, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and say he will be better than Mihm) were all bad GM moves.
Peter Gabriel? But anyways, the Magic did not give them Richardson, thatwas the Clippers own pick at 18 that they took him with. And the Magic are infinitely better off than the Bulls. That deal involving Dooling and Maggette allowed the Magic to get rid of Derek Strong's contract and sign Tracy McGrady. I'd take him over Dooling, Strong, and Maggette any day.
When did the Clippers make the playoffs? Yeah the trades let them clear cap space for Hill and McGrady, but just looking at the exchange of talent there, it made the Clippers look like geniuses. The Krause-bashing is pretty silly. Because of the perceived competition between Krause and Jordan, everyone wants to bash Krause to be on Jordan's side. I don't know why people want to be on Jordan's side, but they do. As for rebuilding the Clippers, they aren't even there yet. And, imo, they won't be getting there either. What progress they have made is mostly the result of their own prolonged suckiness anyhow.
not anymore..since he's not a bull anymore he is not allowed to talk about him or acknowledge his existence...
Elton Brand will be a great PF in this league...but he's a missing piece kind of player, and not a PF you could build around like Webber or Rasheed. I'd love to still have him--- And I think Achebe is right. The Krause bashing goes back to the days of MJ. If MJ loved the guy and gave him mad props a lot of the bashing would be muted.
While people may not PERSONALLY LIKE KRAUSE my question is this: Wasn't he the same GM with 6 rings? Sure he rode the MJ coattale at least he knew to stay out of the way Rocket River
He's also a guy that tore apart a dynasty, traded for guys like Roy Rogers to save cap space, and has had the Bulls sucking for years, with little hope in sight until possibly this last draft. The guy just completely ruined the Bulls franchise the last few years.
My bad...John Gabriel. Anyway...they made the space to sign Tim Duncan (they already had Hill in the bag). They went to their next option---Tracy McGrady---when that fell through. If that had happened, Tracy McGrady (refuse to believe it all you want--I don't care---I have his words in print in Slam Magazine) was set to sign in Chicago, the Bulls would have traded Marcus Fizer and Jamal Crawford to Portland for Jermaine Oneal and we would have gotten Eddie Jones or Tim Thomas with the other 8 million. We were that close. It fell through, and Krause started a new plan. Let me vent for a moment: I've been called a homer, and a Krause fan, a Bulls apologist and more on these boards. I don't come here to preach the Bulls mantra---I come to talk bball, because here there are some of the best bball minds and most rabid fans I've found on the net. I rabble-rouse sometimes, but I check in to talk ball. I'm tired of the Bulls losing, and if we have another season like last, cracks will start to show. I suspected Brand was the wrong pick from the beginning, but when I looked at how things could work out and at how things almost worked out as written above I had and have to give Krause some credit. He had a vision. He has a huge ego and we wants this team to be a winner more than anything and he almost had it. Thats why I'm on his side, and thats why I'll argue with people who bash him simply for the sake of bashing him. Rebuild again? No...I don't like it---my patience is thin---I want the Bulls to win...but I understand and see why he's doing it. Several high-schoolers have gone bust, true, but man! Several of those were talented enough athletically to enter the league on one season of college ball or less, be taught the game, and absolutely stand out: T-Mac, Kobe, Garnett, Miles---and he's rolling the dice that his will be no different. What GM wouldn't want players like that on his team ? And if you've got the chance to get some, then I think you should. (of course, several of you disagree about the way you do it). But there are some kids you can just tell will be special way early on. Everyone thought Miles would be great. You all think Griff will be great. Deshawn Stevenson.... This current team is all about Crawford, Chandler and Curry who Krause thinks will be the same caliber (I'm a fan, I'll root and cheer for them---but I think passing up Richardson was a mistake---But I couldn't pick one of the two: Curry or Chandler to give up for him). And next year Krause will go after LeBron James or Yao Ming or Jason Williams... He didn't want a team that would grow to be good, be cap stuck, and have no chances of getting better (see Miami). If he's off and we're in the same boat after Chandler and Curry's second season, then yes, I'll say time is up and it's time for him to go. I don't come here to troll or preach, I just want to talk bball. I'll defend my team, just like you will yours. But more than anything I just want to hang out with the crew, shoot the breeze and have friendly debates about bball. If you don't want to talk it, theres no need to be insulting or rude---just don't reply.
How did Krause tear apart a dynasty? He was a little too eager to get started, and he alienated his players...but it was Phil Jackson that started a power play with Krause that the managing owner had to intervene in. Basically it was Krause vs. Jackson/Jordan. Reinsdorf made the call: Phil could stay only as coach (something the Lakers limited him to too) if he was unhappy, then he could coach somewhere else. MJ (unwisely, as the current comeback attempt is showing) sided with his coach. Rebuild around Pip and Kukoc? Maybe...thats debatable. But Pip didn't want to stay without MJ and picked Houston. He went there as a unrestricted FA. We only did the sign and trade (Roy Rogers was filler and Houston would offer no more because they had him either way) to avoid furthur fallout from the breakup. Krause just knuckled down and did what his boss told him to do. If Reinsdorf told him MJ and Jax were coming back, he would have watched over them and helped the team win another as best he could. If Reinsdorf said rebuild, then he'd rebuild.
Nah. He was a Bull then. I love his game, and I like watching him play, but I've never been a big Wink fan. I wanted Brand or Odom. I do like Griff though...and I have to admit you made a good call on Francis.
