I was thinking about Bull talking about being younger and playing on this team and I could not help thinking . . . . . How would he have fit. Was his defense any worse than Anderson's? Was his three ball worse? Rocket River
Anderson is a better player than prime Bull was, but not by much. Both could not defend. Anderson is probably the better low block/in the paint player, but Bull might have done as well in today's NBA.
Bull had such a beautiful shot.. But he truly was probably the worst defender I've ever seen play basketball. Witjer's defense is allstar caliber compared to Bulls. The best way I could describe Bulls defense is comparing it to Ryan Bowens offensive fundamentals without the effort. He was also extremeeellly slow. He looked awkward and fundamentally flawed, a stiff on D. You literally couldn't give the man very many minutes because it was so bad. As beautiful and consistent as Bulls 3 point shot, I don't think he could make it into todays NBA. I know we have moved to a 3pt era where defense isn't as important, however the truth is the game has also moved to be too fast for his skillset. Again, I don't beleive he could make it into todays NBA let alone this team.
About as well as prime Novak or prime Budinger. Maybe prime Chris Jent or prime Boki or prime Scott padgett
He was pretty sturdy in his prime....and sneaky athletic. But in all seriousness. Don't let this idea that we are in this new era of 3s to allow you to forget that the '94 Rockets were designed to allow guys like Bullard to have a role off a deep bench. We were designed to spread the floor. He was in an absolutely perfect situation. If it weren't for Rudy and Hakeem, we probably don't even know who he was. Also remember, for three years of Bullard's prime, the NBA moved in the three point arc by nearly two feet at the key. You could argue that his skill is more commonplace now. And he might not even make it.
Matt Bullard at his best is Ryan Anderson at his worst. There's as big a gap from Detlef Schrempf to Ryno as there is from Ryno to Bull. He wouldn't get a minute of PT.
Ryno is light years ahead of Bull. Bull was a minimum player at best. Ryno may not be worth 20 million but he's shown enough to get that contract.
