So I want to plan a trip to Corpus Christi but I don't want to just hang out at the beach all the time while I am there. You guys know of any fun activity we can do there? I found 2 things so far South Texas Botanical Gardens & Nature Center and the Texas State Aquarium any other suggestion?
Girlfriend and I went there last week for Spring Break. The USS Lexington was really fun to go to, even if you're not so much into history and stuff. It was still cool. Walking around downtown Corpus or along N. Shoreline Blvd is a good view, especially on a pleasant cool sunny day. There's also the Whataburger By the Bay, which is the renovated original. Apparently, their burgers are better than other Whataburger, but we weren't hungry at the time so we didn't get any. The beach on Padre Island is better than the Corpus Christi beach. Other than that, not sure. We only stayed for 2 days. My friend said Texas State Aquarium isn't that great, but it's something to do.
There's a couple of cool bars on Water Street. Wait until the minor league baseball season starts and go to a Corpus Christi Hooks game. The rest has been said...
I went on this tour and it's one of the best i've ever been on -- why... you can slip off into all kinds of crazy places on that ship. There was absolutely no guides or supervision at all -- we went into all kinds of weird lower levels and there is some spooky stuff. It really felt like a mini adventure creeping off and checking out stuff under the water line -- make sure you bring a flash light if you decide to get off the regular approved path.
When my oldest was in Cub scouts we stayed overnight on the Lexington, you can reserve a spot to do that, I highly recommend it. DD
I think that's only for youth groups. So if you do have a kid in one, do it. It looked pretty cool, other than having a gazillion kids getting in the way of your own exploration.
Leaving Corpus is usually my favorite thing I do when I'm there. I hear crack can be fun too though if you're really in a pinch and can't find any ludes or barbies.
went there for business (im 24) and i really couldn't find nothing to do... it was not as nice as i expected
1) Get Drunk 2) Find Woman 3) Bang Three simple steps to enjoy in South Padre err... Corpus Christi during the Spring.
I grew up there (Flour Bluff). Nearly everything there involves: water (fishing, surfing, hunting ducks, etc) eating (mexican food and seafood mostly) drinking drugs and getting laid. All of which sounds like loads of fun to a college student -- but even as a teenager it all got dull fast. I don't like visiting for more than a few days and I grew up there. I'm a beach person for sure though, and I really dig going to the state park (Mustang Island, on the way to Port Aransas) or national park. There you can get far away from the drunken hordes of fools and enjoy the peace. Having the beach to yourself is a great feeling. Camping out there is great as well. I also recommend Rockport as a day trip. It has an odd vibe to it, and it has some surprisingly upscale places to eat and drink. Though...as a footnote, a friend of mine who is a career musician that's toured all over the planet told me of all the places he's been on earth it has to be the easiest place to get laid in...and he named it off to me not knowing I was even from Texas, much less Corpus Christi.
If you go to the Botanical Gardens let me know how it was. Visiting Botanical Gardens is one of my hobbies and I've been to over 50 of them around the world.
I heard there is very nice one in Zilker Park, Austin. Not sure if you've been there or not but I will go there sometime next week, before going to Corpus Christi.
Executive Surf Club - get the surf burger. They also have live music there. Also, it's next too the Texas surf museum. Snoopy's is a good place on the island for some good fried seafood and it's on the water so it has a good atmosphere. It's super casual and local. Port Aransas is 15 min from padre. PA has great restaurants and the best beach. There is also shopping at boutiques for the lady. Selenas memorial, which is on the bay front. Worth a drive by for people watching alone. They also have various activities down there as well. Deji, what year Flour bluff are you? My girlfriend, who recommended all of the above, is a "Bluff Rat"
