Rank the order of who picks up the bigger contract this free agency?
All aging vets fighting with injuries or egos. T-mac, and to some extent ginobili, is young on his birth certificate but his body has taken quite the beating.

I see T-mac signing on to a contender for a little more than Ronron got. Ginobili resigning with the spurs for about the same. Iverson won't make it through this season. I could she Shaq weighing his options and if a Lebron-Wade connection ever happens he would gladly take as much as they are willing to offer to ride them to a championship.

    thoughts?

T-Mac if he comes back healthy this year, then Manu, then Shaq and lastly Iverson.

I doubt any of them gets over the MLE. Even though they may be worth that, its tough to deal with the ego of an over the hill superstar( with the exception of Manu who was never a superstar ).

    1. Tracy (he's so naturally blessed/gifted, I still think he can average 20/5/5 next season if he doesn't get hurt playing however many games this year)
    2. Manu (who wouldn't want him? Hate the Spurs, love Batmanu)
    3. Shaq (lack of quality centers in the league, I think he can still be a solid contributor)
    4. Iverson (cry baby. None of the contending teams would want him and even if they did, he wouldn't wanna come off the pine. Still a 20/5 guy, but I highly doubt he can turn a team around)

Of those four, Ginobili is the best player.

If the Rockets can get him by offering a bit more than the MLE, they should.

I think McGrady will retire after this season. His body will tell him it's time to move on. He has plenty of loot so money probably won't be a driving force.

i wonder if morey has thought about some kind of deal swapping shane for manu or a sign and trade in the summer? I could see both teams wanting to do this...

Ginobili is too old and now his health status is too tenuous to offer that kind of contract IMO.

And if McGrady by chance really is healthy now, then he is the best player of that group... as long as he's in an environment where he'll be even somewhat motivated.

I'm confident in Morey's ability to shore up the depth to where they wouldn't even need him to play big minutes. Just need allstar level play over 25 minutes, and that will be huge. He's one of the top closers in the game, and there really hasn't been any drop in that regard as he crossed into this 30s.

The thing about Manu is that people think that since he's getting old he's going to slow down. Funny thing is, he was NEVER fast to begin with. He was quick and worked the seams and creases. Sure he dunked a lot more few years back but Ginobili never was a high flyer and only used whatever athleticism he had when it was necessary. Injuries have slowed Manu down more than anything but he's still a crafty (and very good) player.

I haven't seen him play often but looks like he has lot him step and is not as explosive and quick as he was. I am not impressed by him this season at all.

As for Tracy, that is what he will have to do. Sign with a contender for less money but he can really help. He can be that missing guy. We will see what he will show this season. But if he can come back strong I can see him going for a team like Cavs or even Boston or LA.

He still gets to the line, hits threes, he's a strong ball-handler and very good passer. I think he'd be great in an Adelman offense.

i can definatly see t-slac ridding the coat tails of the elites so he can get out of the first round he would definatly get mle maybe a little bit more not much and definatly no more than a 2 or 3 year deal
shaq is done he wont win anything without lebron kobe or dwade so he will sign werever the best team that needs a fat non frethrow shooting center for watever they can provide maybe a good lawyer
ginbli is still a decent player i can see him gettin lamar odom money

If Yao doesn't opt out and we don't resing T-Mac i expect us to offer Ginobili about 3 years at 25 millions frontloaded (somehow 9.5, 8.3, 7.2).

He is quite accomplished player both at running speed sets and halfcourt, has good chemistry with Scola and is acclimated to play with a shoot first PG as Brooks (Parker) and a Big Man that relys more on post moves than speed and strength as Yao (TD). He would be a hell of a fit here.

All of this depending on how he plays this season of course.

Great closer, involves all his teammates and a born champion.

AI may have the most talent of all of those, but he also has the biggest attitude problem. No one wants him.

Ginobili probably has the most value of the four. He has been a talented player recently, but obviously he is old and gets hurt a lot.

Shaq is the oldest and well on his way down. I wouldn't be shocked if he retired at the end of the season.

T-Mac is the hardest to read since we haven't seen him. He could be a 20 ppg guy, or not good enough to be in the NBA. We'll have to see this season. He does have the most potential for a big contract, though.

Manu is a bit better version of the SG equivalent of Scola. The guy doesn't have outstanding athleticism but he's the old guy at the YMCA who can just school the foolish youngsters. It's so easy to look at athletic guys like T-Mac and think they're as good as it gets, but Manu's a proven winner. He's a genuine superstar, anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot. Just because he can't posterize people and dunk from the free throw line doesn't mean he's not a superstar. He's a modest glue guy, with a real competitive spirit. He's the only person ever to win the gold medal, NBA championship and Euroleague title. I would take Manu, even in his current condition, in a heartbeat.

Ginobili would be perfect for the team.

He's a team player that doesn't mind coming off the bench. He's one of the best closers in the game. Basically he brings superstar skills without star treatment. Plus Manu and Scola have so much chemistry and they'd love to play together.

That said, it's hard to see him leaving SA.

Ginobli...his injuries have not been as severe, and he is a better winning type of player....a guy who goes all out.....

This is the only thing I would be ok with letting Tmac expire for...to offer all our cap room to Manu...for 4 years.
