Is Fulan Gong a cult or a misunderstood sect of buddism/taosim? http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/04/20/china.protester.ap/ There was a disruption at the White House today from a FG protestor. FG claims to have over 60 million followers. The founder said he can walk through walls and make himself invisible. He also says that he is some sort of deity who has come to help humankind and believes aliens walk the earth. I've seen FG practitioners and they don't seem to bother anyone and just pray/meditate. It's usually a group consisting of a couple old ladies, guy in his 30's and a American. His sales pitch must be incredible to get so many people to buy into it so quickly. China claims this is a cult. The West says they're not a cult. I'm thinking they're no worst than the Moonies, where a guy with an agenda and money get to his promote his ideas. It falls somewhere in between the Branch Davidians and Scientology. Also, I think FG is a gimmick to get people to wear yellow shirts. What is the concensus?
In my opinion they are definitely a cult. Anything to make a buck I guess, I should declare myself the savior of mankind and have people worship me too.
they are always outside the chinese consulate and i talk to the lady all the time. Seems nice like a nice lady. She asked me if I wanted to join the Falun Gong and proceeded to ask me what my mutant superpower was.
You should have told her that you can emit a foul smelling poison gas from your exterior that can render great discomfort to another person's olfactory nerves.
i don't know/care. but i know they shouldn't be treated as second-class citizens by the government. i know that persecution like that sucks.
I did a report on them back in college, I came to the conclusion that there is a a part of the group that is like a cult (takes money from followers, has plans to topple the government, brainwashes people into doing stupid things) but there is a much larger part that is more about the exercise, philosophy and health benefits. So its kind of like scientology but with exercise.
China is known for such cults through out the history, in the not too distant past there was the boxers and white lotus cults (they claim very similar stuff to the current FulanGong). But it seems so many people never learn from the history, it is so sad.
The thing about Falun Gong is that some parts don't seem culty at all. They do believe that there are 300 year old folks walking around right now that are members of their religion, but it seems more amusing than harmful.
Chinese people are very superstitious traditionally, which makes the population easily manipulated by cult leaders, if you check Chinese history, the cults are there all through out history.
If he's so powerful, why doesn't he just pee on everyone? BC HE'S JUST CRAZY! Real power derives from the ability to urinate on lower beings.
Was it in 2002, or 2003 that the Chinese Dude was here? No, not that tall Chinese baller, but their head honcho. And a bunch of yellow clad FG guys were there all meditating, sitting on the side of the 610 west loop in the rain like a bunch of morons getting soaked. They want their voice to be heard, they need to get their asses violent. I remember that they had to drive him by using the other side of the freeway going agaisnt traffic. I think I've seen some on Montrose. You always have that one token white dude there. I don't think it's a cult, but are pretty close. If they're talking about aliens, and walking through walls, then maybe they might be a cult. Funny thing, last night I was thinking about Cults. I was thinking about Heavens Gate, and thinking about the one that went to Garland, TX because it sounded like God Land. Alot of them were from Chinese-Taipai, (or is that Taiwan?) They said God would appear on channel 18.
they were here in LA too, its always a bunch of old Asian guys and women , plus a few white guys. they are definetly a cult. Always chanting down with China. bunch of traitors.
What exactly is the definition of a cult? Anyway, here are some excerpts from a Times interview with Master Li Hongzhi, the founder and head of Falun Gong. http://www.time.com/time/asia/asia/magazine/1999/990510/interview1.html
Am I the only one who found these two Q&As very funny? I spit my coffee all over my keyboard when I read that
