Umm, how has Hakeem Olajuwon gotten 108 (as of now) votes for being the most disappointing based on expectations?

What the hell were you 108 people expecting out of him? 20-10?

Maybe if Rudy were allowing him to play in all four quarters he might be able to produce a little more effectively. So far he hasn't played more than 20 minutes except for one game, and in that game he had 12 rebounds.

    ------------------------

    Clutch,

I think someone has bypassed your "only one vote per IP#" or something, because there can't possibly 108 people that are all blind, deaf, mute, and mentally handicapped.

I agree Dreamer. Hakeem offensive game is not there but he is still doing a decent job on the boards.

I think I have seen instances where hakeem has been effective, especially in the clips game where he had 10 boards I think, but it is sad to see him and his post up game, he simply cant get it done anymore. I think in no way has he been a disapointment. Please hakeem get better position on the blocks though, he lets offensive players get to low and it makes it easier for them to score.i was surprised to see how many people voted for Francis as the biggest disapointment. I think he has been playing great, and has been dishing out more assists this year. Throw out the first game cause everybody sucked in that game, cuttino had 33 but he still sucked, he shot a horrible percentage

He's averaging 3.25 TO's, not bad for a PG. I think a good pg should average 2 assists to every TO, and Steve is close. How many young PG's who haven't played alot of organized b-ball don't have that problem ?

ALot of us on this board like Andre Miller (including me), but he's having his problems also.

Hakeem needs to get into a rythm during the games. He should get at least 10-12 shots a game. That doesn't seem so bad when you compare it to Cuttino throwing up 20 bricks a game.

I'll be happy when I see a 8-8-2 game from Hakeem (8pt, 8 reb, 2 stl/blk). Until he can deliver that consistently - key word, CONSISTENTLY - he's in the way.

    (a few assists, too)

    Begin the bombardment now...

Okay, treeman, not exactly a bombardment, but...I would also like to see Hakeem get his numbers up, but even if he doesn't, exactly who is he in the way of?

    12 pts, 5 rebs, 5 stls, 0 tos

The tally is up to 190 people who are not Hakeem fans and do not know enough about basketball to be allowed to vote in that poll.

5 points per game on 40% shooting? I wouldn't say those who called Hakeem disappointing people who know nothing about basketball.

    Gotta agree with Clutch.

Also, I was expectin some sort of a post game from Hakeem, but it's just not there. OCCASIONALLY, he'll make a dream shake. And most of his moves, he ends up spinning through the middle and passing it off.

And I think that blown dunk by Hakeem against the Clipps really disappointed as well as saddened some people.

But Dream's still got good rebounding and a decent outside shot, and I think he'll be ok if he continues to shoot those mid-range jumpers well.

    Clutch,

1.) He's averaging 6.40 points on .448 shooting. (Since you did make your post after tonight's game). Also, have you actually checked out how Hakeem has shot game-by-game?

    GAME 1 - .500
    GAME 2 - .500
    GAME 3 - .222
    GAME 4 - .600
    GAME 5 - .556

2.) I didn't say they knew nothing about basketball, merely not enough to vote in the poll with any educated meaningfulness. (Okay, so I meant "nothing", but I didn't say "nothing")

3.) Hakeem is not being incorporated into the offense AT ALL. He's just put off to the side or way up at the three point line, and not allowed to get the touches to score any more than he already is.

    4.) The poll specifically stated,

This being the question, I do not see how Dream has not lived up to expectations, especially the expectations of the members of this board. I didn't hear 10% of the posters give even optimistic predictions of how Hakeem would perform this year.

If anyone is to blame for Olajuwon's low numbers, it is Rudy Tomjanovich himself. Hakeem has only played 20 or more minutes in two games this year. In the first game he played 34 min, and had 12 rebounds. Tonight he played over 20 min and had 12 point, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, and 0 turnovers.

    ------------------
    alaskansnowman,

Yeah, keep bringing up ONE FRIGGIN' PLAY when you're talking about how Hakeem has played this year. Don't bring up that big power dunk Hakeem had tonight in the WIN AGAINST THE LAKERS AND SHAQUILLE O'NEAL, because if you did that how could you justify your argument?

DREAMer -- don't get ridiculous on me. What does current stats matter when 190 people for him voted before the latest game?

Look, you're a well-known Dream fanatic... just don't insult people because they're not thrilled with his play. It may anger some he's getting paid $17 million, producing little and laughing after missing dunks.

PS -- he wasn't my choice in the poll.

    Clutch,

Man, I have been VERY VERY quiet this offseason when it has come to people bashing Hakeem here on this board. There were countless threads and posts about how Olajuwon should retire, or how he sucks, or how he's hurting the team, or how we should've traded him. But, I will not take it any more.

The man is in great shape. He's running well. He looks as quick as ever, and he has shown that he still has some skills.

If 190+ people cannot see what is happening on the court, then I will insult them. Especially, if you say me telling them that they don't know enough about basketball to vote in that poll insulting them. I make it a habit to try not to get personal, but the total lack of insight and knowledge is a GLARING fact in my mind for those who voted for Hakeem.

I already addressed why Hakeem is not producing more than he already is.

If people are going to begrudge Hakeem the $17 million that he earned by playing well below what he was worth nearly his entire career here in Houston out of loyalty to the city and the franchise, then I don't want them claiming the championships he won them either.

You don't think he was laughing after the missed dunk because he was embarrassed? To tell you the truth I would've liked it better to see Hakeem cuss and yell and get into fights and show some more fire, like he did in the old days. But, the truth is he hasn't done any of those things since he renewed his Muslim faith. And, he didn't win any titles until after he changed how he approached the game either.

I do think we still would've won even if he had remained a hot-headed fireball, but the fact is he was able to win without doing those things.

Okay, what I am hoping is going on here is that some jerks are reading my thread and thinking they're gonna tick me off by going and voting for Hakeem in the poll.

At least that would explain the almost 90 votes for Dream since I started the thread.

That is fine. It doesn't bother me if that is why you're voting for Hakeem.

Also, out of the 192 (thus far) people who've voted for him, how many have posted a response in here to explain why they voted that way? Maybe ONE?

I don't think Dreams been too disappointing so far. Mo was tops in my disappointments so far.

Dreamer your making a big deal about nada.

Just because a few outta-towners voted Dream most disappointing doesn't me he isn't still apperciated.

    The Dream never fades.

Hell, I wasn't embarrassed for Dream when he misssed that dunk in La, but I felt like killin them ungrateful LA scumbuckets.

That was after most of the ppl voted in the poll though.

The lack of a post game is what disappointed me the most, but Dream's been hustling and rebounding pretty well. I'm also glad that he's in good shape and helping out the team in any way he can.

I'm one of the posters that voted for Hakeem. However, the ballot was a little confusing -- I meant to vote for Al Gore.

In regard to the point that Dreamer is trying to make, I think I would agree with what he's saying. I also understand how his insults aren't based on just this poll but on the lack of respect for Dream on this board in general. So, his outburst is somewhat justified.

Dream has actually been a pleasant surprise for me. I guess you could say I am disappointed by how Rudy has been using him so far this season. Granted, I have not seen all the games but from what I have heard and seen Dream looks rather good out there. He looka agile, is still a force on the boards, and can still get his points. Dream being in the way of our development and teammates is an issue that should be discussed in this thread so let's not go into it.

There are two things that surprise me about this poll:

    1) Dream is playing well, yet people seem to rely on stats to make their judgements.
    2) People on the board have been bashing Dream throughout, yet he's the disappointment?

I suppose that it's right to say that those who voted might not have had the necessary information (watching games, basically) to make a good call.
