Recent changes in my life have me wondering, are there any friends of Bill W on this BBS?

I think most people here still drink.

    "Founder" (co-founder) of Alcoholics Anonymous.

He's the Samuel Adams of the Dried-Up Upright Drunks Club...

Unless he's talking about Bill Walton... ;)

Ah. I'm not an alcoholic, I'm a drunk. Alcoholics go to meetings.

I see. And drunks start threads titled "Alcoholics", not alcoholics? Makes sense. ;)

I commend you for resisting the urge to go to meetings. It must be difficult.

My step-father is a recovering alcoholic. I borrowed his car from him one time, and it came with one of those AA-type stickers on the back (I don't remember what it said, but probably "Easy Does It" or something like that). At a stoplight, a guy pulls up next to me and motions for me to roll down my window. I comply, and he starts telling me that he's a friend of Bill W. I have no idea what he's talking about. Finally, he explains it well enough for me to understand, and I have to disappoint him by noting that it's not my sticker on the car (he did seem genuinely disappointed).

The thing that always struck me as funny about the bumper stickers on that car was that along with the AA one, there was an Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association sticker. I always wanted to put a Northwest Airlines sticker along side since this was about the time period when some Northwest pilots were getting busted for drinking too close to flight times, but I figured that joke was too obscure (and a too tasteless).
