http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/06/19/us.canada/index.html I commented on this before, so I’ll follow up with this now. I’m very satisfied with the way the American military has dealt with this matter so far. By all reports they have cooperated fully. They have fully cooperated with a parallel Canadian investigation and have included a high ranking Canadian military representative in the top levels of their own investigation. This was a terrible incident that should never have happened, but such things do happen from time to time and the real test of integrity is how the incident is dealt with after the fact. These two pilots are highly trained individuals who bear a high level of responsibility for their actions. If you are grated the privilege of wielding that much power you must be held highly responsible for what you do with it, and it seems hopeful that these two pilots will in fact face criminal charges for their actions. The real penalty for them, though, will be having to live with having broken basic rules of engagement and carelessly murdered 4 allied soldiers, who all had wives, children and family back in Canada. The American military OTOH has dealt with this in an up front conscience manner, and my respect level for them has increased significantly. http://cbc.ca/news/indepth/cdn_casualties/
Good. They should definitely be criminally charged. Lock them away for a few years. This never should have happened.
