has this not been posted yet? its a major intersection of highway that collapsed after a fuek tanker exploded... luckily they had already cleared traffic and no one was injured in the collapse... the driver was probably speeding and managed to hail a cab to the airport... 80000 people will have to figure out another way to commute for the next month or two... and not for nothing, this is for the 9/11 conspiracy theorists... The theatre where the show I am in is east of downtown on I-10. On my way there, I drive by the 59 ramp that got torched by a tanker last Friday. It's just closed for a few months. Crazy that almost the identical accident happened twice in 24 hours.
I was driving on that stretch of road about 30 minutes before the incident. I can't imagine what will happen on a workday like today. Maybe it was just carry over from the fans in Oakland going nuts after game 3. The frightening thing about this is that there's a heck of a lot more energy in an earthquake than in the back of a gasoline truck, so when the next one hits, this whole region could be REALLY screwed.
The energy in an earthquake is released in different ways and isn't going to be concentrated. Depending on how the earthquake strikes the freeway could still stand.
This one happened to be a tanker, but trucks turn over on that ramp and the ones at 610 and 59 quite often. Engineering at its finest.
i was driving past that stretch of highway and it took me 1 hour and 30 minutes on a stretch back home that normally takes 15 minutes because every friggin highway in the bay area is in heavy traffic. i was VEEEEEERY angry. But it was funny how every car that drove by there slowed down to a crawl and everybody in the car turned to look at it. One guy got out of his car on the middle of the highway to look lol.
The press put the temperature of this fire well above the estimate temperatur of the WTC fires. Don't expect any falloff in WTC conspiracy theories. I think this was just a big liberal plot to make folks ride mass transit. I bet Al Gore and Sheryl Crow are behind this.
