OK, so to whom exactly is Jason Kidd blowing a kiss when he shoots a free throw? That ranks up there on the weird scale with Jeff Hornacek's face wiping and Karl Malone whispering to the evil Utah Jazz basketball gods. Anybody remember any other weird free throw routines? Well, besides Shaq's routine of clanking them off the back rim.
I love Patrick Ewings "Frozen Moment In Time" pause at the top of his free throw pose. How many tens of thousands of lane violations have happened on his free throw attempts? And while we're on the top of free throws...I remember when players used to take a free throw attempt without having to slap five with every member of the organization that they're playing for. How long will it be before fans can purchase court passes that will allow them to come out after a free throw attempt and slap five with the shooter? Are players so mentally weak that they have to be reassured by their teammates after every attempt? Uuuuuggggghhhhh...
I *HATE* THAT. Its so daggum annoying and it seems like it would distract the shooter and take him out of his rythm.
One of the worst is Steve Smith. He takes forever, He rubs both sides of his temporal head areas and bounces the ball like 7 times with a pause in the middle.
Francis slaps his chest or his tattoo on his chest or something before each of his. I was always fond of the Anthony Mason one hand shot. Watching him position the ball in his right hand was always humorous to me.
Doug Christie's is straight to the point.....he never takes a dribble. He just looks at the ball and gives it a spin, then puts it up.
Mark Jackson Points in the air, takes about ten dribbles, picks it up, sets, shoots. Takes 8 or 9 seconds of the 10 second limit pretty much every trip to the line. On the contrary, Duncan shoots it after one dribble(Sometimes).
Derek Coleman's is pretty annoying to. He just like crouches down and dribbles the ball like 15 times than finally shoots.
I like the way Shaq-Pak just lobs it up there... I mean what would it take for this guy to hire a coach and perfect his technique?
Nick Van Exel's 17 foot free throws are always cool. Jermaine O'neal is one who has a strange free throw routine. I can't remember what it is he does right now, but I just remember a weird routine and Jermaine takes a very, very long time to shoot his free throws.
Shaq got a guy from Australia to teach him how to shoot FT's, and for a period of time, he was making about 75%. I think it was last season, or the season before. But then Shaq fired the coach, saying he didn't like the style he was shooting or something like that. Anyone remember Rick Barry's 'underarm' FT style?? That was cool.
his daughter. he blows a kiss 2 his daughter. and i like iverson, he rubs his tattoo of his mom, thats nice.
If you look at all the really great free throw shooters like Hornaceck (even though he rubbed his face), Stockton, and Calvin Murphy, they usually only took one or two quick dribbles and shot it up.
francis also Rubs to his mom. there is a cross i think on his arm, and it reminds him of his mom. I love Outlaw atile just like Anthony Mason. Both look like there are shooting a Bowling ball.
Trivia time: this former Rocket was the first player I ever saw pantomime dribbling (three dribbles, if I recall) and shooting the ball as his free throw routine. He was an NCAA All-Tournament player in the late 70's.
