Cliff Notes: DirecTV dispute with Viacom Called to complain Got $10.00 of a month for 2 months Free HD receiver to expand our service to another room. Free NFL Sunday Ticket Replaced my old HD DVR with the newest model Okay so as most people have heard Dish is dropping AMC and something else because of disputes. Well DirecTV is having a dispute of their own with Viacom Channels such as MTV, VH1, and Comedy Central. So on a tip from my brother in law from an article he read about it he said to call in and complain and see what I can get from them. So tonight I finally had the time to call and as soon as I got to customer service I asked for the cancelation department. With the high volumes of calls they are probably getting it took about 25 minutes to get an operator. When I finally did I just told him how upset I am that my family will not be able to watch their favorite shows anymore and that I was getting a better deal from Uverse. I also mentioned how I have been a great customer buying Sunday Ticket at full price each year and when I called to get a new HD box for my bedroom they wanted to charge me a bunch of money to get a new receiver and wouldn't even work with me so it left a bad taste in my mouth and want to cancel. Well from here it gets great. First off he of course apologized for everything and then said based on the services I get right now he would knock my monthly bill down $10.00 for 2 months. (Friend got $20 off for a few more months because he has the more premium lineup) I guess they do it based on what you have. In regards to the new receiver he said he will go ahead and give me a HD receiver for our bedroom for free (waived the $99.00 charge). Then he said since I have been getting Sunday ticket for a long time he would go ahead and drop the price down to a 1 time price of $99.00. I was like is there anything better you can do with this for all the trouble etc. He said you know what since I'm sending you a new receiver if you agree to 1 more year of service (Which doesn't change anything for me) I will give you Sunday Ticket for FREE. Bingo another win. Finally we have an old HD DVR unit in our living room and I just told him that it's been giving me trouble and I want to have the newer model. He first said that he has to send someone out and I told him that I have tried everything etc etc and it doesn't work. I'm a tech guy and trust me. At that point he went ahead and said okay no problem. Sending me out the newer version of the HD DVR for free as well (of course they do cover the units but to not have to have someone just come check it was worth it since nothing is really wrong with it. Just wanted upgrade) So if you have DirecTV I would call and just wait on the line, complain and get as much as you can while you can. Good Luck
Stories like this have been circulating. I wonder if it will have any effect on the outcome of getting free stuff out of them.
I think it's always good to get on it as soon as you can that way they don't have some quota or give less.
I took it to them after receiving an offer of 5 bucks off for 2 months. I told them it wasn't enough and wanted to cancel. Needless to say, I was able to get 10 bucks off for a whole year. The trick is to have intentions in canceling. It's not enough if you just call asking for discounts.
Nice maybe I should have pushed harder but I figure with Free Sunday ticket, and receivers that it makes up for it.
I got a slow HD receiver replaced and $20 off my bill per month. So that's worth at least $300+. Not the best I've read out there but pretty good.
At this point, I'm not going to complain about loss of Viacom and threaten to leave over that. I'm going to threaten to leave cause they are giving it up like little b****es to anyone that calls in whining so they better give me something or I'm gone.
Yeah. I got a bunh of new stuff, replaced old sd boxes with Hd, free Sunday ticket, etc. also got the wireless kit so I can use iPad for remote and sync DVR shows to mobile devices to take them on the go. Bunch of stories like this in the Viacom vs dtv thread.
I got $10 for 12 months and an additional $5 for 3 months. They offered me Showtime free for 3 months but didn't want it. I should have pushed for NFL Sunday Ticket. Oh well.
do you guys have expired contracts or are you doing this while under contract? I have over a year left under contract, will asking for cancellation and then trying to get these deals do me any good?
I just called. The first time they offered me 10 dollars off for 3 months. I hung up and called back. The 2nd time was much more successful. I got $40 dollars off the bill for 6 months $20 dollars off the bill for the following 6 months Free NFL Sunday Ticket Free HD DVR with Direct TV Cinema plus free installation
I was surprised i got as much as i did. I've tried calling and complaining in the past about having to shell out so much for Sunday ticket while new customers get it for free. We've been with Direct TV for 12 years so it was about time they did something for their long time loyal customers. My question is why are certain customer service people refusing to budge while others are giving me whatever i want. You would think there would be more of a uniform response.
I'm pretty sure they're told to give away as little as possible and still keep the customer. So it will vary depending on what the customer is willing to accept.
Yup. They will aslo start with the lowest and you have to be tough about it. At the same time it does come into play how much you spend a month and how long you have been with them as well.
they should just give everyone free Sunday Ticket for everyone's troubles. I find my self keep going to comedy central only to be pissed off more and more when I forgot they took it off. Free Sunday Ticket for every one would end my frustration with them.
