This guy is exactly the kind of energizer bunny player the Rockets need.

He seems to be making smart decisions, and gets that ball up in a hurry.

I do not think of him as a full time starter (YET) but he changes the game dramatically when he comes in and all the Rocket players seem to run down court knowing he could get them an easy look.

IMHO he should be the first guy off the bench, especially with the team struggling to find chemistry.

Nothing gets chemistry more quickly than a pass first PG who motors up the court.

FREE ANRE BARRETT !!! Who is with me????

    :)

Put Ward on the IR (I still can't believe we signed him to a 3 year deal!!!!) and start Lue and have Barrett come off the bench.

Not enough qualifiers, you're being way too optimistic for this forum. Prepare to be flamed.:D

I agree as well, if he doesn't work out as a first guy off the bench, what have we lost?

DD you are 100% correct. Just watching him the last couple of games shows that. I know it has only been a couple of games, but he seems to take very good care of the ball and makes great passes. He brings energy and emotion that is sorely lacking on this team. Ward should not get off of the bench.

from Houston Chron. "Ward back, then out again
Guard Charlie Ward, who missed Tuesday's game in Sacramento, made a brief return to the starting lineup Friday.

Ward played only 13 minutes before he had to leave the game because of his sore right knee. He aggravated the injury diving for a loose ball midway through the first quarter and will undergo an MRI today."

So ANRE BARRETT will play a lot of minutes tonight

Been overseas for a week, but I'm suprised at Barrett's numbers. There not spectacular, but it seems he has been pretty effective, even though he was making his debut.

Can anyone give me a little summary of his game? It also might be the only positive thing I will read on this board as of late.

Barrett looks hungry. He actually wants to play. I say give him the reins and see if he's Ben-Hur.

Well, knowing the way JVG plays his reserves, Barrett probably won't play the next 3 games since he did miss two 3-pointers last game.

I say just let andre barret play at least 20 min per game. it can't be any worse than ward/lue. who knows...maybe he will become even better.

I don't see Barrett as a starter. I see him as one of the first guys off the bench. He is an energy guy like Earl Boykins. He is quick and thinks pass first. I think with more time he can become a really good player and increase our transition offense some. Of course he is a liability on the defensive end due to his size, but so is Lue and sometimes Ward. He has the potential to be the second best point guard next to Sura.

The PG is a problem, but I do not think another after-thought PG is the solution.

Houston has solid interior defensive presence (YM, DM), reliable player in critical situations (TM), potential offense from the bench (MT, JJ), and smart role-players (BS, SP). Houston desperately needs athletic F's (and one PG) to chase down missed shots, provide perimeter defense, and consistenly hit the open shot.

If Houston needed to justify a trade, they do not have to look any further than the last fourteen games.

If Houston needed trade partners, they do not have to look any further than (around) the .500 mark.

If I had a choice, I would pick:

Marko Jaric - sweet-shooting (and competitive) 6-7 PG who ranks with league leaders in steals and assist/turnover

Troy Murphy - young, intelligent, and rebounds

    Kirk Hinrich - sweet-shooting PG with above-average assist/turnover ratio

Chris Bosh - [too late to trade for Bosh]

    Corliss Williamson for Weatherspoon

Doug Christie for Nachbar and Weatherspoon

Except for Bosh, all of the above players are attainable.

I like the guys speed and fire. He seems like he does a great job of going to the basket and kicking it out to our shooters. As long as they can hit their shots we should be fine.

    Wholeheartedly agreed.

Ward should come off bench, have Lue start for now, and bring Andre Barrett first off bench, or have Lue Barrett together.

I've been Barrett supporter since Rockets picked him up.
