Did you get a laptop or desktop? If you got a laptop then you may want to invest a few dollars in this: http://www.orbicule.com/undercover/
you guys are living in the past. macs are getting more popular and hackers are starting to take notice. i caught a macro virus last month for my mac at work. norton makes an anti-virus for macs. note: if there weren't mac virus, there wouldn't be any security updates would there? http://www.symantec.com/home_homeoffice/products/overview.jsp?pcid=ma&pvid=nav10mac
laptop...this looks tight..however, i dont need it. i'll have eyes on this macbook at all times. it will only get stolen if it's at gun point....if not, fists will be flying. i dont plan on it being stolen..
wow...i said that w/o looking at the price. this looks worth it is it yearly or is it a one time fee of 39.99?
There is no Mac virus yet. Some prove-of-concept malware do exist. Those security fixes are preemptive. Until there is a report of Mac virus out there, I will not worry about it. The macro viruses are ineffective on Macs. But Mac can be carriers for these viruses.
I've had a MacBook for almost a year and no virus. You really don't need it. There is this update that pops up once every couple of weeks with all these programs it says it is updating for viruses.
It's more dangerous to put that Norton crap on your system than worrying about a mac virus. He doesn't need it.
Yeah. I got a student ID...hopefully i can use it Thank for your help everyone I heard that there are NO/very few mac viruses....I dont plan on visiting questionable sites with this macbook....i'll save all my p*rn surfing for my desktop...
But then you'll miss out on Safari's private browsing feature http://lifehacker.com/software/mac-os-x/safaris-private-p*rn-browsing-mode-102146.php
No one is trying to say that Mac's impregnable. That said, The Unix-based OSX is EXTREMELY secure. I've owned Macs for years and never once had an issue. I honestly wouldn't worry about it if I were you, but do whatever you feel you must, of course.
