Well, since the title of your thread is "Free agents", I'll answer that one first. Harpring was a free agent last summer, but he resigned with Utah before he hit the open market. So, no we can't sign him as a free agent.

Now if you really meant "Could we trade for him", I'd have to also say that it would be doubtful. What do we have to offer that we would be willing to give up and that would be appealing to Utah.

I agree with you that I think Harpring would be a great fit for the Rockets, but it would be difficult to pry him away from Utah. I think that Utah will have to move one of their front court guys this summer, but AK47 or Okur are more likely candidates than Harpring. Harpring it tough and does alot of things well and is on a reasonable contract.

Your thread title is misleading. Harpring isn't going to be a free agent this summer. He's a very nice player, but what exactly are we going to trade for him? I'd be more content about shopping for a point guard than anything else.

No thanks, we need speed and playmaking. Harpring is good, but kind of fills the Chuck Hayes role.

Harpring is signed through 2009/2010 and there is no way Utah is going to trade him to us for anyone other then Battier and I say no way. You are right, Harping would be great on this team, but I dont think he can hit the three like Shane and thats what we need. Plus, Battier's defense is better then Harpring.

Actually the free agent pool doesnt look very good this year especially at the PF and PG positions which is where I imagine the Rox would look for help. The MLE might land a player like Steve Blake or Mo Williams but we may have to use some of that money to resign Hayes. Hopefully someone good falls to the 26 pick, or Vspan and Novak make significant improvements this offseason.

Harpring is on JHo level money and would come off the bench. A better option would be signing an actual free agent like Ime Udoka for the min to 1.5 mil per year on a multi-year deal.

Sign the two Matts and we're ready to roll. "Who?" Matt Barnes and Matt Carroll.

Personally both Vince Carter and Steve "I love to Dribble" Francis stick out to me. Houston doesn't have the money for either tho, I hope we can get another kind of scorer, maybe not a Carter, but someone who can explode. I love Shane, but he doesn't do it for me on offense. Who knows, maybe I'm just being overcritical.

The problem with these threads is that inevitably, some people forget to check to see if the good player they want from another team (1) is actually a free agent and (2) has a snowball's chance in hell in signing for the MLE, which is all that Rockets can offers and (3) plays for a r****ded enough GM to trade a superstar for a package including Juwan, Luther and/or Chuck.

IS barnes a free agent?? cause if he is the rox should offer their entire MLE... How much you think this guy can get... theres probably a team that will offer 7-8 mil a year after this series :( but he is real nice... tall, long athletic, nocks down the open 3... drives, cuts...everything we need battier to do more of...that would be a nice rotation of tmac, battman and barnes...

Yep Barnes is a free agent. Although I doubt he'll leave Golden State (seems to be a loyal player), he would be awesome as our shooting guard. And if you doubt if he can actually be a starter, the guy started in place of Richardson earlier in the season and went on a teaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar.

He's been pretty damn good his whole career.

But he isn't available and the rockets have more pressing needs(getting Rafer off the court for one).
