I know an agreement between the Rockets and Swift has been reached. However, since the contract is not signed, does all this mean anything? I hope this prolonged period of waiting doesn't create problems for us getting Swift. What if NY came out of no-where and offers a SnT with Memphis and gives Swift more money? Is Swift going to jump ship because of it?

    swift wants to play here...
if he didn't he would have agreed to terms with some random team that offered him a buttload of money like the hawks.
to put it squarely, it means nothing.

Could happen, though I doubt he'd be shady enough to break terms with us. He's been wined and dined here in houston, he AND his agent made commitment to the Rockets, and he knows he's worth more yet wanted to take our offer to grow here. I wouldn't worry too much IMO.

What if, out of spite, Cuban offered Swift 10mil per year for 5 years. Would he take it?

Teams are very cognicent about burning bridges with one another. If Swift came to an agreement with the rockets, then any other GM should respect that and move on. You never know when you're gonna have to do business with a team and when certain behavior will come back to bite you in the ass. That goes for the agent as well.

The difference: Boozer made and illegal agreement with the Cavs, Swift made a legal, verbal binding commitment. HUGE difference.

Ok c'mon now....after seeing Swift take the MLE, we all know what he's in it for. Its not the money.

So in light of this, who would you rather play for.....

a team lead German who disses his teammates in public and has no space for you to start/play

    -or-

a team lead by Tracy McGrady that gives you the opportunity to start and prove your worth

I think Greg Anthony did something like this. I don't recall the team, but I think it was the Hawks that he agreed to join and then changed his mind before signing the contract. So, the answer if yes. That is also the answer the another question, "Do you sound paranoid?"

We won't lose swift. The fact is that when a guy goes off the market, the other teams will already start looking elsewhere to fill their needs. It was a whole domino effect that landed Swift in Houston and filled up a lot of the PF positions avaliable. Jersey worked out the sign and trade for SAR, so then Swift took the MLE with us, which led to Marshall landing in Cleveland. Swift and his agent stopped negotiating days ago, and it's very unlikely that any teams will be waiting for some microscopic chance that they turn their backs on us.

In the 3 years I've been reading anything and everything about my all-time favorite NBA team on this forum I've seldom seen the positive excitement a single player signing generate like the Swift signing has. Perhaps dispensing as much hoopla as the T Mac landing and Franchise leaving, we can envision going the distance now. Whether you agree with everything posted here or not isn't most important. Bottom line, we have a passionate and great fan base like no other I’m aware of and the top brass show signs of insightful intelligence in putting together all the right ingredients for a serious championship run.

I've been a big Rockets fan since the Calvin Murphy - Moses Malone days and I've seen some idiotic moves start from the top and tumble down. How about the year we took smart pills and got the guy from Missouri, Derrick Chevious who always wearing a Band-Aid? Good one.

I've also witnessed the historic twin towers lay waste to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, and fellow LA Lakers in 1986. Anything can happen. I think this Swift deal is as solid as it can be without the super glued signatures inked in. I remember him being a desirable, possible draft choice for the Rockets the year he went early at # 2. Surprise, surprise! We applied new math principals the next draft and closed the day with one Eddie Griffin. Wow! Three ones equal none. We’ve had our fair share of luck also. Some might say and suggest more. Events and outcomes have a funny, chaotic, unpredictable nature. Weird is the normal pulse.

I was working and living at the very isolated Mason - Dixon line during the 1994 and 1995 NBA seasons when we took home championship trophies. As the Lone Texan, I was a fan base of one up there. Talk about where the Twilight Zone meets Mayberry. They thought I was some kind of nut or alien undesirable among those historic Civil War villages of southern Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. 300 years of manicured countryside with goober and hayseed gone wild. I was hooping and hollering like the south was rising again or some equally strange X-files occurrence.

I can testify that JVG was one very disappointed dude. That particular Knicks team of his in 1994 was major league nasty and mean. Team Olajuwon was not to be denied though. Talk about mindset and determination winning over all other odds, I'd like to see JVG finally get his and ours back here to Houston again. Perhaps destiny will finally be fulfilled for more than one single, special person.

And Cuban gets this $ from where....an illegal under the table payment? Mavs are over the cap and only have the same MLE we did

In his career, Swift has backed up SAR & Pau. I don't think he wants to be a backup for another 5 years. Because of this, he isn't as valuable to the Mavs as he is to us so Cuban didn't go after him.

Besides, to take the next step, the Mavs need another star to compliment Dirk, not another role player. Too bad for them they let Nash get away.

Dallas is further over the cap than we are. That kind of deal is simply not possible.

Do some research before you post something like this. Mavs is over the cap. The most they can offer is MLE. It doesn't matter who owns Mavs, Cuban or Bill Gates.
