http://blogs.chron.com/franblinebury/2007/04/rockets_should_lose_to_the_sun.html April 15, 2007 Rockets should lose to the Suns. It would be more fun. Were you around in 1994 and 1995? Were you a Rockets fan who hung on every bounce of the ball, every slam dunk and Clutch City jumpshot? Answer just one question: Which NBA Finals win was more fun? If you picked the 1995 sweep of Shaq and the Magic, go stand over there in the corner and work on a Sudoku puzzle. If you picked 1994 and the gripping, thrilling, tension-in-every second seven game tug o' war against the Knicks, then I'm talking to you. There is nothing like a Game 7, nothing the match the electricity in the air of one night, winner-take-all. Which brings us to the Rockets and Jazz and the race for the home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. The Rockets are now just one win (or one Jazz) loss away from clinching home court. But that would remove all of the drama, all of the doubt, all of the fun from Game 82 of the long regular season. The schedule is set up perfectly. It doesn't often happen that two teams with so much at stake get to go head-to-head on the last night, in the final hours. There could be an entire season on the line for both teams. So what better way to test both sides than one game to decide it all. Jazz beat Blazers and Rockets lose to Suns. A perfect setup. If you believe in the Rockets — and I know you do — then you know that they are quite capable of going into the Jazz home and winning the game. Most of their big games all season have come on the road. What better way to make a statement at the start of the season than to win in Utah, grab the advantage in the series. It would rock the Jazz back on their heels. It would immediately plant the seed of doubt. After losing streaks of four and five games over the past three weeks, the Jazz would be out on their feet. Oh, you can be safe if you want. You can say you want the sure thing that could happen on Monday night. But there's nothing in sports like one game, winner-take-all. Do you have the nerve? I was reading Fran's blog and half way through, I couldn't tell if he was trying to be fececious or if he was being serious. I can understand where he is coming from, but I don't agree. I was sooooo glad the Suns locked up the 2 seed by having Dallas win over SA tonight. That means, hopefully, that the Suns are going to rest thier players when they come to town tomorrow night. I think the best case scenario is for us to win tomorrow and rest our players Wednesday against the Jazz.
Then again....if it is a meaningless game against the Jazz, they might just rest all thier players too....
since spurs lost tonight, suns was locked with the 2nd spot. they might rest all their key players. Hope rox can win next game, so HCA is ours.
Nothing sweeter than winning a do or die game, but I'd prefer we take care of business as early as possible.
why would any team/fan want to have 7 grueling games in just a first round series??? and this guy is comparing two championship seasons.. what if in the 95 season we lost to the knicks in 7? would he still choose an exciting 95 championship attempt or a "boring" 94 championship?
And I'm sure Franny, in his quest for "fun", would be very kind and understanding if the Rockets lost a series as a result of not having homecourt advantage. There will be plenty of series without homecourt for him to be amused.
Thank you !!! One thing this team has to learn how to do is to step on a team when they are down. Get that killer instinct, close out a series.....that can start to build tomorrow with a win over the Suns. Go for the throat ! DD
I'm sorry but I'd rather be doing a "sudoku puzzle" while we chill resting our players than having a nit-n-grit game on wednesday and possibly injuring tmac or yao.
Fran being Fran. Personally, I thought the second championship had more ups and downs. The first one was fun too.
F*ck you, Fran. We'll get plenty of "big" games in the playoffs. I'd rather my team not get swept by the Suns this year.
We should all write the chronicle a "Letter to the Editor" and site this as one of the reasons why newspaper subscriptions have plummetted. God i miss the Houston Post!!!!! At least with two papers between the two of them we would have a decent rag. Stupid.
Ugh, we haven't won a playoff series in like a decade and the man wants DRAMA? Yeesh, slow it down. I'd prefer solid wins and a solid HCA NOW then a "dramatic" finish.
maybe if the rockets are winning the series 3-2 they should lose game 6 just for the fun of having a game 7.
