    Rockets sending Francis to lottery

Guard Steve Francis has agreed to represent the Rockets at the May 19 draft lottery, the latest indication of his plans to remain with the team long-term.

"He may be good luck to move up in the draft," said Francis' agent, Jeff Fried. "He wants to win so badly. He's really competitive that way. Steve enjoys Houston and the people in Houston. This shows further support of the team and its future."

Rockets owner Leslie Alexander suggested Francis be asked to attend the lottery. Francis confirmed on Wednesday he would make the trip to New Jersey, but general manager Carroll Dawson said he needed no new statements about Francis' intentions.

"He's always been solid as far as the Rockets and the future goes," said Dawson, who represented the team at the past two lotteries. "I never thought that was in question."

Well I guess if we end up taking #8, we will see that same expression he gave the Grizzlies a few years ago.

This makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Perhaps it's because Francis' presence shows a family like atmosphere down in Houston. That's one way to get players to play harder for you. Show them some loyalty.

I wonder if Rudy & CD finally broke their "SENIORS AT ALL COST" mentality by themselves (last year), or if Francis & Cat had something to do with it. Trading (3) 1st round SENIORS for a 19 year old, doesnt sound like Rudy. Drafting Collier sounds like Rudy. Maybe our new team captains are to thank for drafting the best player (w/potential) opposed to team needs.

What will happen this year? It seems Francis is excited about the draft. I wonder if he wants to get into the top 3, (to trade the pick) or if there is somebody there he wants in this draft.

    Whichever way, its ALL GOOD!!!

I for one am very glad as without he and Mobes we would be just as sad as the Bulls with their bleak furure. And who knows better what our team needs than those two, if they are involved with the decision as well I will be happy with what ever pick. I don't believe in luck but I really like his presence there. And personally I would like to see us go with Hilario, and Woods in the draft I think that they can both be a great front line help. Do you remember how excited you were when we got Steve because the Griz declined Detroit based on the Vaught Physical.

It's a nice gesture to have Francis represent the team, but it's not a very big deal. All he has to do is be present and celebrate if we can in the top-3 or look stoic if we drop to 7 or 8.

Probably, Alexander realized he had vacation plans that day and asked Dawson to be there instead. Dawson said, 'No, Rudy and I will be working. I can't waste my time with token appearances.' So, Les decided to send Francis.

I don't think they ever had a so-called 'seniors at all costs' mentality. Since Rudy became head coach, he's had a championship contender. He needed guys to help compete in the short-term. Thus the seniors. They've only had two drafts without any aspirations of contention: the Eddie Griffin draft and the Collier/Langhi draft. And, there wasn't much to choose from in the Collier/Langhi draft anyway (though I still wish we'd taken Turkoglu).

Since he's consistently led them into the lottery, it's only fitting that he lead them at the lottery.

I think someone from this site should represent the Rockets. Maybe Clutch, Jeff, HeyP, Nike, or even me. I could sit their and act like like this entire thing is not rigged. You know what, I am going to work on my reactions right now. I think whatever I end up doing will have a snap to it.
