Francis has the 2nd highest verticle leap. At the dunk contest he had the most , I forgot how much it was. But Deshawn Stevenson has more than Steve Francis, thats what they say in High School that his was like 46 or 47. I know Francis has more than Baron Davis.

Francis was measured at the scouting combines at 42-43".

There are a few people that had/have higher verticals than Steve. Spud Webb did. I think Spud was around 46"-48".

Eddie Robinson and Ricky Davis probably have equal or better verticals than Steve. Eddie Robinson's vertical may be around 46"-48". He was with the Hornets earlier, he may still be with them.

There was a guy that played with Kevin Garnett at Farragut Academy named Ronnie Fields that supposedly had a 48-50" vertical. He did what Vince did long before Vince did it. He lept over somebody to dunk the ball in game action. Of course this guy was only about 6'5", but then Ronnie's only 6'2". [IMG] Vince Carter once watched him dunking during practiced and shook his head in disbelief at some of the dunks this kid pulled off. His other claim to fame was playing Michael Jordan in a charity game about 5 years ago (when Fields was only 16). Michael won 10-8. To hype the "legend" even more, in a slam dunk contest, he jumped over a car to dunk the ball. Not sure what kind of car if it was or if it was sideways or the length of the car. Several scouts and people that saw both of them play said Ronnie was a better player than Garnett -- he was a complete package; could score, rebound, play PG, play defense, etc. Hopefully he'll get a good shot in the NBA in the future instead of being one of those "coulda beens" or "playground legends" types.

Anyway... there's my hoops legends addition for the month... [IMG]

Thats a good question. I would be that Steve has a lil higher vertical jump, but I'm not that sure. Baron has had some nasty dunks also.. I think a few days ago he had a reverse slam off an alleyoop.

And when you bring up high jumpin guards, don't forget Starbury. He had, some unbelievable reverse 1 hander off an alleyoop too a few days ago.

This year's slam dunk contest should be pretty interesting. Every year we're seeing more and more guards who can jump through the roof. I hope they have another small point guard aside from Francis this year at the dunk. It'd be interesting watching Francis vs. Marbury/B. Davis.

I think Steve has a slight advantage on Baron. What about the rookies from this year Craig Claxton or Keyon Dooling, they have some hops!

I did not know Mcdyess had a 47 or 48 vertical,he must be able to dunk like 12 foot!

I always liked Nique myself,he just came from behind and over players!

First off, Steve didn't do the rookie scouting combine which was in Chicago. He just did private workouts for a few teams. Francis has a higher vertical than Baron but Baron can dunk with as much power as Steve. Also, Steve is a much more creative dunker than Baron, and whoever thinks that Baron's dunk last year on Garnett was actually ON garnett your crazy. Kevin didnt even jump.McPherson is ok but whoever mentioned there name is just buying into the hype they heard about him. He has never dunked in an NBA game and did some good stuff at summer league, nothing to get excited about. Bottom line it goes to Steve, no contest. Baron after the knee surgery lost some ups but still probably can get about a 38 inch vertical

o yea I forgot to talk about Eddie Robinson. Don't buy into anything you've heard about him having some outrageous vert, its crap. He is 6'8 probably closer to 6'9 with long ass arms and no he doesnt have as high a vertical as Steve.

ahhhhhh I forgot one more thing. NO WAY IN HELL does deshawn stevenson have a 46 or 47 inch vertical. If anybody saw him in the highschool slam dunk contest you would know he doesnt have a vert that high. The ESPN guys even said he had a 40 inch vert

DoD I heard about that guy that dunked over a car. he is supposed to be a freak.

but on the point of verticle leap. do any of you know hom high 48" really is. thats 4 feet. at that point a 6 foot tall person would have their hips at approximately 7 feet. If you guys follow the olympics, you will know that the World record for high jump is 2.45 meters. thats something like 7'10" with most of these basketball players being 6'4"-6'6" that would make these guys contenders every yeasr for an olympic, or world championship gold medal. Im sure they are great aleletes, but lets face it. they all lift their legs upin take off so it looks like they fly higher. I used to do it. hell it looks good when a 6 footers legs are 4 feet off the floor on the way to the rack, but lets face it. he only needs to jump 2 1/2 feet to dunk. I was known for my verticle in high school, but there is a huge difference between a standing verticle leap, and a running dunk where you can lift your legs, and do a pullup on the rim.

besides, good leaping ability never won a game. drive determination, and heart winds games. for that I say spudd webb is the better jumper. and Barkley in a close 2nd.

    peace

Didn't this Fields guy have a serious injury or something a few years back? Like with his spine or something of that nature? That was the last time I had heard of the guy honestly, but yeah, apparently he was going to be for real...

Yup. He had a back or neck injury of some sort in a car wreck. Last I heard he was playing overseas or in the USBL or something.

In a Maxim article, Francis says his own vertical is 45 in. I doubt Davis' is that much.

I'm CERTAIN that the guy jumped over the car as it was parked sideways.

If anyone remembers Marko Milic he did the same thing in Mexico. He jumped over a Honda Civic to dunk the ball, looked MIGHTY impressive!!

Isiah Rider HAD a 52" vertical.

David Thompson could take money off the top of the backboard.
