I'm not quite sure about the details but I just heard on Fox 26 that he has received an extension and there could be more details later in the day!
Great News!!!! If its a six-year extension, that means we got the Franchise for seven more seasons, right? I can't even imagine how good he'll be in seven years. Things are looking good!
Here's the AP Story: (Houston-AP) -- The Houston Rockets reportedly have reached a deal with point guard Steve Francis on a six-year contract extension. K-R-I-V T-V says uniddentified sources told it the final compensation won't be determined until the salary cap is set for next year. However, they tell the station the deal could be worth between 80 and 90 (M) million dollars, overall. Rockets spokesman Nelson Luis is declining comment, but told the station the team may have an announcement later today. Francis was an N-B-A All Star for the first time in his career last season. He's heading into the final year of his current contract. The extenstion would keep Francis under contract through the 2008-2009 season. Francis averaged 22 points, seven assists and seven rebounds last season despite occasionally disabling migraine headaches. Doctors recently diagnosed the cause as a fluid buildup in his inner ear. ^ (Thanks to Mark Berman, KRIV) ^ (Copyright 2002 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
Does this mean all the Steve hating can stop? All the talk of trades can stop too, right? I sure hope so.
Well, at least all the ppl who jump on him for putting off signing can shut up now. There will always be ppl hatin on him for other reasons. (not me) but there always will be someone. Thanks Robert ...saved me the trouble of posting the full story (as it is now)...Fox just came on and reiterated what the AP story says...
Ring ring. Steve: Yo. Baron Davis: Hey, man, you watch the game? Steve: Yeah, I gotta admit, he [Ming] looked pretty good. Baron: Sign that contract, dummy. That's all I'm gonna say. Steve: (smiles) Just 'cause you got stuck in New Orleans. Baron: If I've got to be in that heat and humidity, so do you. Steve: I'm'a light yo a$$ up next time we play. Baron: Only if I've got the flu. Talk at ya. ----- Assuming Steve's contract starts at about $10.25, his contract will be worth as reported, probably in the $84 million range. Do All-Star incentives and such kick in?
Looks like autograph seekers won't need to look for Steve in the welfare line anytime soon. Will the season ever start? 2002-2003 looks like it's going to be the Year of the Rocket! With a lineup of Steve, Cat, Boki, Griffin and Ming providing the right jab and Moochie, Oscar, Rice, Mo-T and Cato providing the left jab, we should punch our way high into the playoffs! Woof!
This is absolutly a great thing. Watching Yao do his thing the other had to be the last thing to fall of this deal to go through. The 02-03 version of the Rockets has got some great potential, but theyve got to stay healthy. Hopefully Stevie will be healed from all his issues and they can all focus on making the playoffs- Im tired of the lottery!
Sportsradio 610 is reporting there will be a press conference from the Rockets this afternoon, so all of this will soon be official!
So, wait..is this a done deal, and if so, why isn't this a bigger deal in here? (Front page, etc...oh, one more unrelated question..under Hot Topics, is that just for Rockets related threads? Thanks..) Eidt: Re: front Page...nevermind...lol!
C'mon season...start already!! Too bad the press conference can't have both Steve and Yao signing at the same time. Oh well, one step at a time I guess.
Now that Steve has signed a big contract, what does this mean for Ming's deal? Does Steve's contract Ming's at all?
