Alright..being from Vancouver you can understand why my least favorite player is of course Steve Francis. I recall his comments on draft day in regards to Vancouver,"It's cold, it rains a lot, and they take all your money". We in Vancouver won't ever forget those comments. What we also won't forget the crowd at GM Place booing his ass everytime he touches the ball..that was GREAT!What bugged me more about the guy is when he made a statement in the media when the Grizzlies drafted Swift, saying something to the effect, "I should make a phone call to send my condolences". Can you say jerk? This is a couple years after he whined and b****ed to get out of the most beautiful city in the world. Why couldn't he just let it go? I know this is old news, but don't you Rocket fans see the pompous, ignorant attitude of this guy?

First of all Mr. Dickie, Mr. Franchise can whine all he wants cuz he is one of the best talents in the NBA. I understand how you might feel but you have no idea how good this kid is, how hard he works.

And about that statment he said he was just stating the obvious. You know he was telling the truth when he said that, and he had every right.

When he made those statments about you all drafting Swift he was being playfull about the situation but many Grizzlie fans like to take anything he says to just reaffirm their thoughts that he must be the devil.

I'm sure you know what a joke is; but then again your from Vancouver. J/K. And about Stevie being a jerk he is far from it. He is one of the most unselfish players on this team and he is always working to make himself better. There is nothing but good things in this kid's future.

And about you booing him; just keep it up it just makes him play better. And at that rate you will never beat the Rockets again.

See I have let him off easy, but I hope the rest of you take him to the shed for his beating.

    I HATE the Utah Jazz;
Karl Malone is the biggest cheat to ever play in the NBA
John Stockton is the biggest flopper ever
They are BOTH well over-rated players

...except the damned Jazz keeps winning and Stock and Malone just keep on producing (And never miss a game).

If I was offered a contract by the Utah Jazz I would decline (despite the fact I'm nowhere near an NBA player and never will be!), I would never play an NBA game for Utah

Does this make me pompous and ignorant? If it does then I guess that's what you can call me.

If you took the time to watch Steve Francis and the way he handles himself and the type of interview he gives you may notice that he's not ignorant and (shock horror) he's quite a humble type (for an NBA player) - maybe Steve Francis hates Vancouver as much as I hate Utah - seems plausible, lots of people habe pet hates, after all Mr Dickey_Simpkens, you hate Steve Francis; does that make you pompous and ignorant?

You know that since three months after Francis was drafted he has become every coache's fabourite player?

    Don Nelson loves him
    Rick Adelman loves him
    Dave Cowens loves him
    NBATALK loves him
    ESPN loves him
    Jerome Williams loves him

Let it go...He said he doesn't wanna be drafted by Vancouver BEFORE the draft....LOUD & CLEAR.....why?? not just cause of the weather and taxes, because he wanted/wants to play POINT GUARD, because he wants to WIN, and because he wants to be closer to home!!! so, plz, quit whining, deal with it, he can't jeopordize all his friggin wants for the good of Vancouver....WH can't u understand, a few months back, he said he loves the city of Vancouver...He just wanted to be in the right situation....U want b****es? how about fans who through life threatning objects at him in the GM Palace????? God damn, he's earned the respect, so give him what he deserves.......YOU know u can't deny his abilities cause Vancouver would trade their whole backourt for him....He's one of the top 3 PGs in the league, and in a couple of years, when The Glove slows down, Stockton is gone, Francis will be the best....And if ur getting a kick out of this, then imagine how much of a kick WE r getting from the difference between our records....

Not only can this whole board trash you, but they'll do it while proving all ur points WRONG....

    peace out....

I don't really concern myself with Vancouver fans. They are few and far between. They are Clippers North(or Bulls North now). Grizzlies - Was there a team ever more appropriately named? Will they still be b****ing when the whole Grizzlies franchise does not want to play in Vancouver? I know the St. Louis fans will give Steve respect.

    Dickey-
Stevie is very immature in some of the things that he does. I'll admit that.

But it is very similar to the immaturity shown by you to come to a Rockets board to slam our franchise.

Back to Canada with you! Shooo!

Hey chukie how old is this kid. I swear you call him immature but the only time he shows anything is when he gets flashy after a play is over. Which at the time he is entertaining the fans. What more can you ask from him? He does it all.

Immature things I see (or have saw)

-The faces he made when he was drafted
-Dickey was right he was immature in requesting to be traded because he wanted to be closer to home, yet he came to columbus
-Saying if he didn't lead the league in assists his rookie year that something is wrong
-Skipping down the court, or is it more of a crow hop
-His quote in ESPn the Magazine when someone asked him how it felt to play against the best PG in the NBA when the Rockets were getting ready to play Kidd & the Suns and Francis says he didn't know, but to go ask Kidd.
-Having all the skills in the world and not showing the will to win yet. His defensive hasn't improved from last year (maybe a little but not significantly), his TO are better I will give him that, but we are still on the outside looking in on the playoffs.

Don't get me wrong the kid is great, but he does have a lot of growing up to do. He needs to learn how to win (play defense, and know when to take over a game and make his teammates better).
He does have a major PR problem around the league. Everyone knows he has skills, but everyone remembers his draft day fiasco.

    Of course dickey_simpkins is right.

By weasling out of playing for Vancouver, Steve undermined the entire draft process. It sets a terrible precedent and in my mind, the NBA should never have let it happen. Dickey never said he hates Francis anyway - he called him his "least favorite player" and a "jerk" for the condolences comment regarding Stromile Swift. Both fair enough. I agree that he should "let it go". Put yourself in Vancouver's shoes - the guy has already insulted your city, and now he makes a joke about sending his condolences to Swift. If that were my team and city, I would be pretty p#ssed off to. Saying you won't play somewhere because you want to play Point guard or you want to be closer to home is one thing - but expressing a distaste for the city is flat out wrong.

Having said that, Steve, who obviously has big plans in this league, did not want to fall into the publicity black hole of Vancouver - I can't blame him for that, and I would do everything I could to get out of dodge. Bear in mind that this all went down before Vince Carter was elevated to superstar, blazing the trail for other stars to emerge from Canadian teams.

    4chuckie,
the lead-the-league-in-assists comment was more of a tribute to Hakeem's and Charles' scoring ability. He actually directly referenced them in regards to that comment. As far as the skipping thing, I think showboating is a problem with almost all young players. Also, I think a lot of Steve's comments are tongue-in-cheek. he does not seem to be mean spirited in the least. The one thing he could have done is to have been more professional at the draft. I must admit I was put off ------ until he was ours!! But playing in Siberia is not appealing - ask Shareef - what kind of noteriety would he have in a different market?

    I know the feeling Dickey...

There are a lot of superstars I utterly dislike too, Malone and Stockton. And some average players I hate like Schrempf and Pippen.

It really sucks to hate superstars. Because seeing their success sucks even more. And it must really, really suck when they left your team, and your team continues to really, really suck.

    poor Dickey!

had you only drafted Vince Carter or Jamison, Francis would have stayed.

    poor Dickey!

    Dickey,

I can see how you would feel. Yes, he should show more class then to say he should call and offer condolences.

This is what I was talking about, a lot of fans think Francis is a jerk, and to an extent they are correct.

He is an amazing talent, but there are things I don't particularly like either, like the trash talking, showboating etc.

I put up with them because he is on MY team, if he were elsewhere, I would think he was a talented jerk, like Iverson.

I know he is NOWHERE near that bad, but that is what people who don't get the priviledge of watching him play every game think of him.

I completely understand your take Dickey, but Steve will grow up, it just takes some maturation on his part.

    WINK3, I love your SIG !!!

So, you are pissed at him for being right?

    Couple of points:

    a. Vancouver is cold.
    b. Vancouver is rainy.
    c. Vancouver is in Canada where taxes are higher.
    d. Vancouver is a LONG WAY from Washington D.C.
    e. The Vancouver Grizzlies are not a winning franchise and continue to struggle with coaching, management and even owner problems.
    f. Steve Francis wants to be a point guard. The Grizzlies already have a point guard.

These are simply facts, not criticisms. To each his own. If he doesn't want to play there, you shouldn't want him to play there. If someone offered you a job in a city you didn't like, you probably would turn it down as well.

Vancouver is a beautiful city but some people don't like it there. Deal with it.

Get out???? You mean Francis is supposed to stay in Vancouver for the BEAUTIFUL SCENERY?
What a joke!!! Maybe he didnt want to play for your crappy excuse for an NBA frachise. Or maybe he didnt want to live 100,000 miles away from his family. Or maybe he didnt want to freeze his ass off with a bunch of Canadians......AY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Vancouver fans = the girl who got stood up at the prom.

Ok, your city is pretty. Whoop-te-doo. Hate to break this to you, but FA's aren't breaking down the door to play in Vancouver. Who was the last big FA Vancouver signed ? And before you say it, No, Tony Massenburg is nota "big" FA.

Heck, your city is so beautiful that Bibby and SAR are racing to see who gets out first. Vancouver is so beautiful that Othella still lives in Houston.

    Gr8-1,

Come on you can't really tell me that Houston is a beautiful city.

I grew up there, and am VERY happy to be out of that armpit of a city.

I think what the gr8-1 is trying to say is that just because the city is beautiful, that doesn't make up for the fact that the organization and the taxes suck.

NBA players may care for more than scenery.

I thought he and Don Nelson had words when Francis was showboating?
