Hey fans I'm tired of seeing all these negative comments of SF in EVERY thread but he is still one of the best guards in this league... I think with the lack of playoff hype our beloved rockets fans became hungry and start attacking our team..I for one like our team alot, eventhough frustrating at times, but saying SF is the 'worst PG' or 'dumbest player'?? come on now let's just consider that he is getting used to the JVG system, he is no longer the number 1 option on the team, no longer glorified by Rudy as the leader, he is still a great basketball player and hopefully his play will smooth out during the season...I mean who else is better overall guard than him(besides BD from what I read earlier)? and would you actually swap them on your team? I wonder if this will still be going on next season...payce
Unwittedly, you have just started another Francis-bashing thread. Challenging posters to name a better guard in the league is not a good idea.
Steve is a good player. People need to get over the idea that he is a "cancer" or the source of all our problems. If we switch him with someone like Tinsley we will lose a lot of scoring and athleticism. Let's not make excuses for his faults, but let's not ignore his positives either.
Wow. There are two Francis-bashing threads right now that are hot topics and one thread that actually has to do with CELEBRATING him being on our team gets 2 replies and 202 views so far. Isn't the name of this site ClutchFans ?
steve did an excellent job tonight!!! i hope he keeps it up so the rest of the team becomes involved and blow the opponents away! GO ROCKETS!!
Francis got 11 dimes and only2 TOs. Good game, should quiet the Stevie bashers (unless they're going to pick on his FG%) until the next game...it'll be good to read the BBS and not have to sift through all the "steve sucks" threads for a few days.
Steve was brilliant the past 2 games, played tenacious D and get his teammates involved. If Steve continues to create easy baskets for his teammates. He will be 10X more dangerous, and the game will be 10X easier for him and his teammates. Now his opponents not only have to worry about his scoring but his playmakings and defense. I think JVG slowly turn Steve into a more complete player.
I really hope that SF looks at the last two games and sees how dominant he was without having to score all the points. He didn't even reach double figures in scoring and yet we handled the Pistons easily because of his monster D and ball distribution. Yao got 22 and 20 last night. with numbers like that from Yao and 11 assists a night from SF (no matter how few points he scores), we will not only go to the playoffs, but we will do well in the playoffs.
Cato, Taylor and Yao take the scoring pressure off when they play East coast ball with east coast teams. That's not going to work as well in the power front line games of the west. There will have to be a happy medium. It looks like they are getting there though...
Before the game started a couple of buds of mine started to talk sh*t aboutg SF. I told them to chill out he is caught between 2 worlds right now and he is still learning. Low and behold the dude has a great game tonight everyone got involved and the rockets looked pretty darn good. It doesnt matter that we were playing an East coast team. I saw a lot of progress from the rockets as a team effort and guess what if we continue to learn each game and get better then we may be on to something... I even saw SF giving up the rock as soon as he gets down past half court. And then he started running around like Allen Iverson looking to get open shots and Bingo! Defenses don't know who the hell to try to stop. I hope Moochie continues to improve too. Go Rockets.
It does matter if they are playing an East Coast team. Watch LA, Sacramento or Dallas. Totally different style. We will not be able to play walk up with those teams. I do think the addition of MoT and Pike, and the less playing time for Boki will help. The key may be JJ starting to make the opposing 3 play more defense, especially early in the game. It will be up to SF to make that happen. He did an excellent job of getting everyone involved early, i have to admit though, this may have been more of a mandate from JVG (or perhaps one of his staff) as the early involvement included a lot of players numbers being called and a little 1-1 play.
Using this logic, we could say after '94 'Hakeem could have been MVP and taken a team the championship all these years but he just didn't want to!!!?? In any process there is growth, setbacks, learning, more setbacks, more learning and growth, before a person achieves a certain level. I don't think one game means that Steve has arrived exactly like we want him to be, but it might mean he's willing and able to improve.
