Im convinced that not alot of people here actually watch the defensive part of the game.

They have their eyes peeled for any and all offensive plays...but the defense part just seems to escape their notice.....

I know this cause very few will give Cat credit for being a good(borderline great) defender....and they constantly harp on Francis' defense, when in fact he has made damn fine progress this year playing defense..

of course...considerering that in past years defense was a foreign word to him....I can see how some that dont pat attention would assume that things dont change with him.

Cat has been SUPERB on defending Kobe......

but I must say on the games I watched (ever since I found place to download the games....), SF's defense is WAY better than what it is used to be...... he fight over pick and has been a way better defender..... but earning one first team vote is wat amused me..... cos I neva once thought he would get there..... this is a good sign though

Remember those explicable fouls that sent Kobe to the FT line with barely 2 seconds left?

I just saw the news, and I am really amazed.

Cato also has a second-team vote, props to him

I have a feeling that Phil Jackson might have cast those votes tho, in an effort to make SF and Cato overconfident on their defensive abilities (we all know PJ is capable of pulling little stints like this to mess with the minds of his opponents)

Here on earth we can't afford a max player at ever position. Even if we could, who on this planet could play perfect defense against a hot Kobe? Cat has played superb defense on him, and we should all get down on our knees and thank our respective Gods that Cat plays on our team for such a negligible hit to the salary cap.

4 Lakers players got votes for NBA All-Defensive teams: Kobe, Shaq, Fisher, Payton.
Poor malone is the only one without any vote. Also Yao Ming got zero vote.

I wouldn't find it a big deal if Francis just got one vote. But a 1st team vote? It's really hard to imagine someone would think Francis is a better defender than at least 56 starting guards out there.

All-Defensive team is voted by headcoach..... one of the 29 headcoaches voted for Francis.... well, I guess he is not as good as u in evaluating a player isn't it? how come u are not the coach then?

Dude, Mikael Pietrus should be easily one of the best defenders in the league if he gets the playing time. Rember that goldenstate game, that dude can play d like nothing.

Anyone think JVG voted Stevie to 1st Team All Defense? I would put my money on JVG actually. Same goes for Cato on the 2nd team.

Coaches can't vote for players on their own team.

In Steve's defense, I'll say this: he's certainly not a great one-on-one defender by any stretch of the imagination, but there are a lot of guards, point guards in particular, that are pretty horrific defenders.

One media reporter saw Steve made 3 or 4 steals in a game against her team, I guess.

Francis is still a below-average defender.

Not surprised that Yao doesn't have a vote, by and large, he's a bad defender. A center's main thing is to guard the basket, something Yao is too slow-footed to do well.
