Sorry guys I don't have the link but I just got my new ESPN the mag (with BOnds on the cover).
In the NBA section it said basically the reason why Stevie wasn't on the team is the didn't want any ugly american incidents (like Kemp-Coleman) and feared Stevie could do that.
Stevie seriously needs a new public relations department from his agent. I know it doesn't effect his on court play but seems like alot of folks only remember him as the draft day Stevie.

Utter bull****! If they didn't pick Francis because they(whoever was responsible) thought he may embarrass them in some way then they are obviously a bunch of morons.

Can't agree more with ROCKETBOOSTER! Francis is the kind of player the NBA needs to market. Most of us here realize the general personality of Francis. I mean, you see it in his mannerisms, the way he answers questions by reporters on t.v. or print, the way he carries himself, how he seems genuinely humble and focused to win...I just can't believe sorry espn mag. would print that crap! The thing that bothers me most is that other readers from different market areas will believe the crap and this may somehow affect Francis's appeal as a featured star in the NBA.

I don't believe that at all. David Stern knows that Steve is a good guy. That's why Steve was so active during the All-Star weekend. He had reported to Stern's office, if i am not mistaken, and Stern had him do a lot of PR over the weekend.

all people see is the bad. "he wasn't happy being picked no.2 overall." or "he was second in the league in T's."

hopefully this will fuel steve's fire for next season.

That's not the reason Francis didn't make it. The two reasons he didn't make it were Stu Jackson and Jerry Colangelo. Stu Jackson obviously despises Francis and wanted to screw him over, and Colangelo sees Francis as a guy who goes one on one every play down the court.

He sat with his teammate and buddy Cuttino Mobley in Philly and they talked about how they had whipped the Sixers and Pacers by about 30 each this season.

"Smacked the ... out of them," he said. "We have the talent."

I don't know, I could see why people who don't know Steve could view Steve as a "punk." I'm not saying he is, but Stevie is brash, **** -strong, and intense. I don't know Terry or BD, but they may seem more understated. I mean I haven't seen any pictures of those guys riding Sabonis like a horse, lol.
