http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-all-star-shootout&prov=ap&type=lgns NEW YORK (AP) -- Defending champion Peja Stojakovic leads a field of six players in the 3-point shootout on Feb. 8, part of the NBA's All-Star weekend in Atlanta. He will be joined by Boston's Antoine Walker, Memphis' Wesley Person, New Orleans' David Wesley, Orlando's Pat Garrity and Seattle's Brent Barry. Stojakovic will try to join Larry Bird, Craig Hodges, Mark Price and Jeff Hornacek as the only repeat winners. The All-Star game is Feb. 9. The shooting competition is known as the 1 800 CALL ATT Shootout
1. Wesley Person ( Memphis Grizzlies) 49 97 .505 2. Bruce Bowen ( San Antonio Spurs) 47 99 .475 3. Jon Barry ( Detroit Pistons) 43 96 .448 4. Steve Francis ( Houston Rockets) 49 110 .445 5. Matt Harpring ( Utah Jazz) 36 81 .444 6. Michael Redd ( Milwaukee Bucks) 79 180 .439 these are the top 6 in 3 pt %. bowen the league should ask these 6 and if they dont accecpt just start going down the list.
If you needed any more indication, what with the wheel and the "youngsters only" rule in the Dunk Contest, the League has no idea. Antoine Walker? He makes lots of threes, because he takes a lot.
Red's suggestion makes too much sense. S Start with last year's champ, and invite the next best as long as they have a minimum number of 3's.
Prediction: The NBA allows Antoine Walker to take 30 3 point tries, while allowing the other competitors the standard 20. Even still, Walker finishes dead last, only making 8 of 30, not much worse than his career shooting average. Seriously, is this a joke? Walker's shot selection makes Cuttino Mobley look like John Stockton. Electing Walker to the 3 point shooting contest is worse than sending Shaq to a free throw shooting competition. Antoine Walker is like the slow kid in the class who raises his hand for every question, but never gets the answer right. Eventually the teacher stops calling on him though; *sigh*, if only we were afforded that same luxury.
This years All-Star weekend is gonna suck. Slam Dunk contest only has 4 competitors. WTF is that? Arent there normally 6 or 8? Now Steve gets jipped of the 3-point Shootout...Is Stu Jackson really the one who decides who gets in? Thas messed up if he's screwin Steve over all the time.
They should get rid of the dunk and the 3 point contest and have a game of Horse instead. Tell me that wouldn't be kick ass ......
Horse, for sure. Then T Mac v Kobe, one - on - one. Sheed and The Kid, one - on - one. The Rox, one - on - five (oops, that slipped out).
Not one player from the Mav's? ...wow You'd think that they would put in the well known players to get more people to watch it. If they want record setting audience, they could have just put the whole Mav's team in.
LOL I kind of figure someone would of said something like that. I really was hoping Francis would have been in the 3pt shoot out. What's happening, first Eddie not making the Rookie game and now Francis not making the shoot out?
I'll bet the league thought that since the Rox will have two starters in the actual game, they'd give the shootout and dunk spots to other teams.
After all the talk from Francis about how he will win it, he is sure he can do it. and he isn't in it? so much for that hype....
Waaaiiiittttt a minute. If Walker's on the IL for 2 weeks, then would he still be in the competition??? Oh wait, 2 weeks ends before the break. Still though, if he's injured, would he still participate? Another retraction; I guess he still would, I just remembered Tim's "Leg"ler. Allright, not funny. Sorry .
