    Rockets summary
    Hot stove league

As soon as Steve Francis saw someone carrying a newspaper at Toyota Center on Wednesday, he grabbed it from under the person's arm and opened it ,asking, "Did they get him? Did they get him?"

Francis was eager to see if the Astros had been able to lure ace Andy Pettitte away from the New York Yankees. Francis was pleased to hear it was looking good for the Astros.

"I hope they get him," he said. "I don't have a baseball team I really like now, so hopefully we can get a prize-winning pitcher. We have a prize-winning point guard, a prize-winning quarterback, and a prize-winning pitcher is next. So hopefully, he'll be the guy."

Francis said he has been following the Astros as they have tried to lure Pettitte to the city and has tried to help the Astros out by offering his own encouragement.

"He's been in New York, and they've been spoiling him up there, but hopefully we can win him over - new ballpark, great area to live, and he's from here. So it's a good decision," Francis said.

Francis said Pettitte would have to make some adjustments. But as far as the fans and the media go, Francis said he figures Pettitte would handle it all well. He did want to pass along a little message, though.

"If you're considered the best player on your team and you don't score 20 points a night, people think you're not playing good (even though) your record is way better than it was last year," Francis said. "So you better be on the lookout for that. But if you win, they'll talk about you good. If you lose, they'll want you to give your $10 million back. So good luck."

I have never been and hopefully never will be a "Francis" basher....but these comments get on my nerves. He doesnt need to boost his ego anymore especially after his play so far this year. Maybe I am overreacting but just wanted to know others thoughts

Pettite is nice, but he's no Oswalt in my opinion. Oswalt is the prize winner.

    He did win co-ROY honors.
He has been voted to the all star game a couple of times.
    He IS a prize-winner.

That comment doesn't bother me. The last one kinda sounds chincy, though.

Oswalt was nasty two seasons ago, but he didn't make the leap into greatness... like the same one that was predicted for Ray Allen 3 years ago.

Not that big a deal. Would have been nice if he had said prize-winning center instead though.

it's good and all to be a homer but, do you have any idea what you are talking about? petitte, personally, has more playoff victories than the entire astros organization in all of its history. he grew up in deer park and took less money to play close to home. roy oswalt is a great young pitcher whose durability is the only thing i would question about his future. petitte is durable and one of the best big-game pitchers in recent history- he has four world series rings to prove it. it's not opinion as petitte's record speaks for itself and the truth is that oswalt is no petitte- at least not yet.:)

You don't have to kiss up to the newspapers, Steve. Too many Francis jerseys in the stands. Because you can maximum-contract-dunk, you're not going anywhere.

having an injury can do that, you know...

but that does not mean that he can't recover from it. we're not talking tommy john surgery here. we're talking about a man's groin! wait, that's sounded bad. i'm pushing eject now....

    Uuh..David Carr?
Is consideered by many in the know as one of the up and coming young QBs in football.
Dont be fooled by his record with an expansion team...Carr is a prize winner...and will be for many years if the O-Line can protect him better inthe future.

Nothing bad to see here folks...move along.

i have no problems with what he said. i think people look to much into our players' quotes a bit too much. his quote is something that you'd see from the majority of the stars in the league. francis is cocky and that's fine because he can back it up. i do understand how some people are sick of that type of comment, but that's what we have yao for.

Whatever, Francis... People criticize your play when, after 5 years, you still look like you don't know how to point, still get lit up on D (though not as much anymore) and still can't consistently run a fast break. It isn't all about scoring points.

I think the Francis comments were pretty good. It's nice to know that he supports the city he has adopted, and as far as his comments about people thinking that he's not playing well...well he's right on, and I don't think I can say it any better.

He doesn't know ...go easy on the guy.

Maybe someone should nudge him in the side one day, "Psssstt...Steve. Steve...STEVE! Uh, you're not *prize-winning* yet..."

"Really? But I scored 21ppg last year!", he says.
