im going to europe this summer and i think i might stop in france to take a dump on my way to amsterdam...
I lived in France (Paris) when I was an undergrad and loved every minute of it. I also spent time in the South - it is very beautiful but also very tourist-oriented, especially in the summer. Very different feels, though...I prefer Parisian city life to the vill life of the South.
My wife, kids and I spent about 10 days in Paris, France 6 years ago. We enjoyed ourselves and saw all the sites. We stayed at a friend's home which helped us enjoy the culture more. It's fairly easy to get around on their Metro (subway) system. Don't expect to find cold drinks or ice. Folks were not rude, as stereotyped, however, they are masters at cutting in lines. If I go again, I will visit the countryside as opposed to the tourtist sites. On a different trip, my son went to France with his school. They checked out the beaches at Normady and other areas.
I was only there for two days, and Paris is so ridiculously beautiful that I can barely remember any of it. It was like a 'gorgeous overload' caused my brain to implode. I'd love to go back.
My wife and I were in Europe last May. I have to admit other places were of greater interest to me (Spain, Switzerland) than Paris, but due to my wife's urging we planned to have close to a week there (a couple of more days than I would have). Boy did I misunderestimate Paris. Paris and Parisians (food, service) were also great at a much better cost than big American cities. My only complaints were with government workers--post office people and train ticket counter guy were aweful--if you don't hear the answer you want to a request just discretely try someone else. Don't plan on resting there though, a good plan might be to rest somewhere else (if that is part of your idea of a vacation) and then get to Paris.
Lol, you should try renewing a visa there - the French geverment loves psychological warfare played out through its smal administrative offices. It all is up to the luck of the draw - who you get. You could either be renewed or deported for being involved in a massive plot to destroy the nation's supply of chevre.
I was there, but unfortunately only for a couple of days and it was raining most of the time. All the sights were also undergoing "improvements", meaning there was construction stuff that kind of screwed the experience. However, I would love to go back. The people are much nicer than we give them credit for -- at least, the ones I ran into. Or maybe they just thought I was really cool.
Hey, I am German and we generally like France...I think Paris is probably one of the most romantic places to go to with a girl, especially if she is Italian or Spanish . If you need suggestions for hotels or restaurants, please let me know. I spent quite some time there. Going to France again in a couple of weeks, first a few days survival training in the south (Ardèche) and then a few days in Fontainebleau near Paris...
The Germans in Mallorca are a lot worse...and hey, what about the Japanese with their cameras...or the Americans with their tennis shoes and ugly jeans and xxxxxxxxxxl t-shirts with stupid slogans on them?
