Ever since Toronto said he decided to go elsewhere, I wondered if it has been a done deal with the Rockets and the whole hurricane Rita situation prevented it to be announced or finalized or whatever. It does seem as of everything points to the Rockets with Williams since the Heat, who were the only other team (besides the Rockets & Raptors) mentioned as a possible destination for him, decided to sign Payton. If they do sign Williams, I'm on the fence about it. It certainly has a high reward possibility, but it scares me a little that Toronto (who DESPERATELY needs another PG) wouldn't even offer him a guaranteed contract.
If JW wants a guranteed contract, I'd say fine, but only if he agrees on 2nd year with team option. This way the deal is fair for both parties.
Any NEW news on Jay Williams? Is B Sura's knee that bad after surgury? I guess I am just looking for something else to read or get involved into with all the storms hitting our area.
^ Sura's knee won't be ready for training camp and both JVG/CD have made it known that he most likely won't be ready for the start of the season. I haven't heard anything on JWill for a while, but with Miami getting Payton and JWill telling Toronto, "he's decided to go somewhere else," I sure hope we'll get him. I don't think we have much to lose with a 1-year minimum guarantee w/ team option on the 2nd.
this is going to be jwill's coming out party. everyone loves these kinds of scenarios. no one believes in you, but you rise above and prove everyone wrong... or just just crumble under the pressure and your body falls apart on you and become another bust. *shrug*

DerMarr is 1.5 years into is return and still only got a 1 year minimum contract from the Nuggets. I'm not knocking DerMarr or Jason Williams. I like the idea of the 2 year minimum with Team option for Jason and I'd like us to pick up DerMarr next year.
Has anyone seen any vidoes of JayWill's progress. How is his lateral movement, leaping ability and conditioning?
I like to look on the brightside of things also guys, but he almost couldn’t walk again and now we are talking about paying him to be on our team?? I know we don’t have many other options to look at, but I would like to see what Head can do for us before giving money to a guy that is trying to make a comeback..The "low risk high reward" scenarios hardly ever pay out.. I hope I'm worng, but I think he will end up sitting on our bench after JVG passes jugement on him.. Everyone needs to remove the glitter out of their eyes, just because this guy was the #2 pick doesnt make him a lock to be a solid NBA player let alone make a come back from a HUGE injury to become one..
Jay is a winner. I agree that people should set the bar extreemly low, as I doubt he will ever be the player he was after the crash. However, even if he is half of what he was, he might be a decent role player. He has the right mindset for the sport, and that's half the battle. I think that in certain situations, if he can control the ball and create opportunities in the passing game, he could be an asset. The kid has a lot to prove, and I hope we give him the opportunity. Smart players with something to prove can beat the odds. It's worth the risk.
Camp opens next week so if the Rox sign him it should happen within a week. I personally would like the Jay Will thing put to rest, far too many threads and posts for him IMO.
At first this might sound ridiculous, but do you think there is a possibility Jay is intentionally performing like crap for Toronto, coming to their camp so that there would be NBA interest signing him (just to get the buzz going), but not exactly excelling like he is capable of? We all know any player in the league would rather NOT play in Toronto - even the Canadian ones - for a multitude of reasons, the top two being income tax and the sorry a$$ nature of that team. It's somewhat hokey, but is it any more ridiculous than a player just flat out refusing to come to a camp, demanding to be traded before he even played a professional minute in the league (Francis)? Jay had to have felt his chances of making the Rockets squad are at least as good as the Raptors, and all things being equal, which team would he rather choose? Rockets management have historically been fond of big names, and though Jay Williams' stock ain't what it used to be, his glory days weren't that far behind him. The two strongest arguments against Jay coming to Houston is 1) He's not even good enough for the Raptors, and 2) We would have to release a valuable expiring contract. Since I've already addressed #1, I think #2 is worth considering, but can someone with strong knowledge of trade politics honestly tell me the % of expiring contracts of crap players that get utilized by the trade deadline? Surely, it can't be above 70%, and lets face it, our expiring contracts are for seriously worthless players. For those that play poker, it's like limping in with suited connectors - small price to pay, and the payoff could be HUGE.
The good thing about JWill's offensive game is he isn't reliant on athleticism. He has that nice little, quick, throw it up jumper from FT line out to 18 foot that he hits with regularity, similiar to Cassell and Abdul-Rauf. Defensively, he's likely to be another Sura, with the slow feet following the injury. But that little jump shot won't go away. Not fancy but deadly effective. That combined with his basketball IQ may earn him a spot in the NBA. If we can move out a couple players for an upgrade at the 1 or 2, then he'd be worth signing to the minimum I think. The whole deal is..............what trade are we gonna make??
