http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/5484522.html Fox's Super Bowl coverage won't be limited to football By DAVID BARRON Copyright 2008 Houston Chronicle On the off chance you were concerned that conversation and analysis about the Patriots' drive for a perfect season will ratchet Super Bowl pregame tension to unbearable levels, you can count on Fox Sports chairman David Hill to burst that particular balloon. Fox's four-hour pregame extravaganza will "mix two iconic structures," in Hill's words, by combining football chatter with red carpet celebrity arrival segments hosted by American Idol host Ryan Seacrest. Well. I don't know about you, but I'm already taking the Super Bowl a lot less seriously. Seacrest also will introduce the pregame show's musical numbers, including a taped performance of Idol judge Paula Abdul's new single, performed with fellow judge Randy Jackson. Alicia Keys, Willie Nelson and Sara Evans also are scheduled to perform. Last year's Idol winner, Jordin Sparks, will perform the national anthem. The red carpet arrivals aren't the only Super Bowl Sunday gimmicks on Fox's menu. The network earlier announced plans for a three-hour show, beginning at 8 a.m., mixing football with coverage of the Super Tuesday presidential primaries. In that vein, by the way, Fox said the pregame show also will feature a segment encouraging voter registration. Hill, of course, is fully aware that purists may recoil at mixing show biz with football but said, "We hope to balance both and have something for everyone. And if the criticism on the Monday after goes 50-50, we did our jobs."
Men will watch the game no matter what , this is a ploy so that the G/Fs wives have something to talk about when the game starts.
Anyone actually surprised by this? This is what Fox does best. Take something that is best in it's natural form and turn it into something unwatchable. I won't be turning Fox on until 5:30.
My gf will enjoy the other stuff and I can just wait for the game. I dont really need a pregame for the superbowl, Im gonna have read about it every day for 2 weeks...I just want the game to start. Could care less about whats on an hour before kick off.
Really cute 18 year old with an amazing voice. Although everytime I've seen her on TV I've had a hard time believing she's that young...
Pregame? Most SB parties, everyone just mills around, eats and drinks before the game starts, right? Most people will have it on but won't be watching it. So the ratings will be huge, but no one will see it.
The more I hear about, the more convinced I am that I'm skipping this Super Bowl. Uninteresting teams, probably won't be a good game, bad entertainment. All of the good commercials will be on YouTube right after.
Uninteresting teams? We've got one team that is shooting for the best ever tag while going 19-0. The other team won 3 road playoff games and is playing the Cinderella part very well. I'd say this is one of the more intriguing match ups in recent history. It would have been a little more interesting if it was Green Bay instead of New York. But I'm plenty happy with the actual football that's going to be played.
Well, I guess I will have to wait to see what she sounds like, since you completely missed the mark with the "really cute" part.
particularly since they played a really good game on the last game of the season. as a kid, i remember watching the pre-game build up to the super bowl and really enjoying it. now, i don't even attempt. i'll tune in at kickoff.
