I thought this was weird, but I guess the Salvation Army has the rules.

OSHKOSH, Wis. — The leader of a Wisconsin Salvation Army will lose his job if he goes ahead with plans to marry outside the organization.

Capt. Johnny Harsh of Oshkosh is engaged to a woman who's not affiliated with the Salvation Army. They're planning to marry in June.

Harsh says he's well aware of the agency's rule that says an officer may only marry another officer of the organization. But he doesn't think it's fair.

Salvation Army Advisory Board member Helen Lord Burr says the agency's rules are the same all over the world.

Harsh became engaged after losing his wife, Capt. Yalanda Harsh, to complications of a heart attack last June.

Wow, I had no idea. It makes the Salvation Army sound like a cult or some strict religion.

Maybe he'll get a dishonorable discount.

They are. Most only think of them as a charitable organization.

Yeah, my grandmother is Salvation Army. A Salvation Army minister presided over my grandfather's funeral.

I didn't think their rules were so strict, though.

    Religion is so stupid.

I can't blame him for avoiding a marriage with another "officer"...

Good idea! Maybe you should consider FEMA or some other poorly ran organization. Who cares how an organization is ran, as long as your donations are used the way you intended and nothing unethical is going on. Then again, its a denomination, and all denominations are evil.

FYI: I never have given to the salvation army for the same reason I never give money to the beggar outside of a Stop n rob.

All I know about the Salvation Army is that their food is 10x better than Red Cross or the USO.

Look at the definition of salvation, I hear the word at church quite often.

    salvation
    Noun
    1. the act of preserving someone or something from harm
    2. a person or thing that preserves from harm
    3. Christianity the fact or state of being saved from the influence or consequences of sin [Latin salvatus saved]

I just never thought of them as a religious group.

10% of their profits are donated to Satan, the KKK, and the trust fund of John Walker Lindh.

Because the money they receive goes to career education/career services. It's not really how I'd like my donations to be used.

Well, for whatever beliefs they have internally, they do a lot of good work externally. They are a very highly rated charity.

The Salvation Army has received an A- rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy.
