Berman got a phone interview with Steve Francis from Washington, DC.

Francis basically said that it's business, and that he talked with Shaq today and he only wants to play for the Magic if Shaq signs.

Also, Berman said it is only Francis, Mobley, and Cato. And according to Francis' agent, Peake, no deal has been consumated between the two teams in regards to Francis.

He clearly either wants Shaq there or wants to go somewhere else, but nothing to stop him from being dealt.

Now that's interesting ... ORL just might have the players to make that work. It'd be hilarious for us to meet Francis and Shaq in the Championship ...

Could LA get better than the #1 pick, some of Houstons's TE, losing 15% of Shaq's contract, Mobely, Cato, Garrity, Rooks, Hunter, Stevenson, and Gaines?

... they probably could. But, if LA went for it, ORL would do well in the East, as long as they kept Gooden. I'm sure they could get a couple key guys at SG and SF as FA's, even though they'd certainly have no depth.

Dallas could offer Nash(s&t)/Bradley/Jamison or Wallker ...
    Grizzlies could offer Gasol/Wright/Wells/Outlaw ...
Knicks could offer T.Thomas/K.Thomas/Mutombo/Mohammed/ future picks ...
    Pacers could offer Artest/Harrington/Croshere/Foster/Pollard ...
    Kings could offer Miller/Peja/Jackson/Vlade (s&t) ...
    Spurs could offer Nesterovic/Rose/Ginobli (s&t) ...
    Suns could offer Marion/Johnson/Voskuhl/Eisley/#7
    Sonics could offer Allen/Radmanovic/Booth/Potapenko/#12
Blazer could offer SAR/Ratliff/Paterson/ their 3 1st round picks this year ...
Bulls could offer Crawford/Curry/ERob/Davis/#4 ... maybe Francis could end up there too.

I know. Five years ago that little SOB demanded to play for the Rockets. Now he has the nerve to demand to play for the Rockets. We don't need guys like that on the Rockets. Thankfully we have a guy like TMAC who will stick with his team through and through.

I dont see what LA could get from Orlando to get shaq with his large contract.

    Hill
    #1 Pick
Cato (possibly if the deal goes through)
    ???
    ????

who else really? If like orlando makes both trades they are gonna be scraping the bottom of the barrel for the other player on that team. It would be francis and shaq + 10. Just to make salaries match but it would be enough in the east I would think, ECF? maybe but i doubt it they way detroit and indiana were this year.

I love the way SF plays on the court, meaning his effort and heart, he still made/makes stupid plays even now in his 5th year which worried me dearly esp having such an option as Yao the past two seasons

Ok well, here's a question. If Francis makes a big deal about not wanting to play for the Magic, why on Earth would the Magic want him there?

This will obviously not sit well with the fans -- the biggest reason for any decision a GM makes in regards to his team. Sheesh, Francis needs to use his head, he is not making things easy for himself. He has a chance to go to a new city and be embraced by a new set of fans, but instead he is setting himself up to be booed every time out.

Now if I'm Shaq, why do I want to go to Orlando? For Francis and Mobley? Does he think he can demand the ball from these two guys?

Normally I would have to agree with your advice to hold back and get all the facts first, but this guy has not earned the benefit of the doubt. Everytime something doesn't go exactly the way Steve Francis wants it he has gone and cried to the press with his patented "I'm not crying, but I'm not sure how a guy like that(Yao) would help my game or I'm not sure I want to play for Van Gundy or I'm not sure I'm really ok with approving of Terrence or Mooch being traded". This guy is a loser extraordinaire who will continue to lose whereever he eventually gets shipped too. I am just glad we are finally getting rid of him.

Francis expressed NO interest in making a fuss over the deal. He was actually VERY complimentary of Houston and the Rockets, said he knew it was a business and he understood even if he wished circumstances were different.

His agent indicated that he hoped Orlando would attempt to acquire Shaq or try to accomodate Steve and trade him to another team.

There is nothing they can do about the deal and Francis showed no indication of wanting to cause a problem.
