I think I might be the only one in this forum that does not like this move. This team needs a younger, faster, backup 5 who can create shots for himself. He's just setting us back 1 more year..

I love Deke, but on a team where passing the ball and making easy layups may be his responsibility, I don't see how he fits in with any major minutes (more than 10-12). I dunno, maybe Adelman can somehow get a guy with zero offense to do something worthwhile on the court.

I'd sign him strictly as the third option for center.

Yeah, but I thought he was complaining about his lack of time playing or something. I mean come on Deke, you're like 60 years old and act like you're allergic to the ball when you get a pass thrown to you. Be reasonable! :)

Eh, Pollard wasn't much of an offensive factor - at his peak, he averaged about 6.5 points in 23 minutes. Granted, Deke scored only 3 points in 17 minutes this past year, but I think the guy is still a fairly decent backup option (at 10-12 minutes a game). We can also keep him without having to use any of our MLE or LLE -- I think Deke's better than any guy you'll be able to get as a minimum salary player.

My guess is, this has negative implications for Trucky's chance of coming back...but I think that's the case with Adelman, anyway.

Re-signing Deke won't eat into the MLE. With pressing needs at PG & PF they'll only be able offer a minimum contract. Who do you propose the Rockets get instead realistically? Can he even put up these kind of numbers as Deke did this season?

Sorry to hear that! I consider it's about time for him to retire and give younger players a chance to develop. In the playoffs he looked like he had nothing left in the tank !
Besides this we need his money to help get our missing pieces

    Defense?

He might be old, but he showed you all that he can still bring it on a limited basis, and it isn't always about scoring a ton.

He is a prescence in the middle. Don't think we won't need it every once in awhile.

I agree, the numbers Deke put up last yr were ridiculous. He would have been more effective against the Jazz than Yao was in the playoffs

We need his money to help make the required changes. Mutombo has had his great career , it's time to move on. No romantic notions please! The Rockets need new younger players not an old old player who is way past it.Mutombo staying with the rockets is not a good thing for team development!!!!
The Rockets must move on ! If he insists on his option he should be part of a packege to get us a player we really need!!!

I am all for keeping Deke, his salary doesn't cost anything against us in acquiring another player. He was a HUGE reason why we didn't fall apart when Yao missed those 30+ games. He is an effective rebounder and shot blocker.

Big Jake didn't impress me that he is an NBA Player, although I had expected that he would have been much better and had expected him to be a natural to take Mutombos Place. I can't remember if Jake was athletic or not?
