Interesting that they hammered this out while he was still in China... I was expecting it'd take until he got back to the States.
I was just watching fox and turned around. Did this really happen? Not trying to be rude but did anyone else hear or see it too?
Yeah it was reported, the actual dollar amounts won't be known till next year, but it was for five years starting in 2006 and will probably be around $75+ million. As far as working it out while Yao is in China, that's why they have agents....
Could some please post a picture of Mr Burns with a Big ole EXCELLENT!!!! under it because this is AWESOME News Rocket River
it will definitely be max money but i'm just glad this will put the afformentioned "pipedreams" of laker fans to rest. yao isn't going to leave houston, get over it and stop speculating.
I just posted on another NBA board and they want to know why it's 5 years and not 6. Can anyone explain for me?
Then I am sure u would hear laker fans saying "who cares I dont want the softie anyway". They trashed DA for his attitude but get excited to hear Spree is interested to play in LA. They hyped Bynum as the next shaq. Once if Yao asks to force a trade to LA, then forget the softie he would be the next Wilt in the lakers boards.
I think if they would have waited to next year his last year they could have signed him for six, but since they extending him now the max is 5. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Yao can only sign max 5 yrs extension under new CBA this yr, if he sign extension next yr, max can be 6 yrs...
Because of two points: 1. The new CBA shortened contract lengths to 6 years for teams signing their own players. 2. Since this is an extension, the final year of Yao's current deal counts as one of the years on Yao's new contract. This way Yao will be "under contract" for 6 years total, which is the max length that you can sign for.
