It's the opening clip from the Daily Show last night. It compares statements from Republicans before and after the Palin announcement. Karl Rove , Bill O'Reilly, Dick Morris, and Nancy Pfotenhauer all make statements regarding Palin that amusingly contradict earlier statements that were mostly aimed at the Democrats.
Several talking heads are shown "before and after" the Palin announcement, contradicting themselves on issues. Karl Rove is the best. He is shown praising the Palin pick, citing her work as a mayor. Then he is shown, from an earlier tape, trashing Tim Cain (sp) of Virginia: * only been governor for 3 years * mayor of a tiny town (Richmond, VA, 105th in US population) * could only be a political VP choice * obviously not a good choice to run the country The Rove stuff is so typically that I can't understand how he gets any airplay, ever. Beyond being a complete proven liar and opportunist, he is butt ugly.
He basically was standing up for Palin regarding her daughter, saying that teen pregnancy isn't the parents fault. Then they show a clip from a couple months back where he blasts Jamie Lynn Spears' pregnancy, saying the blame for teenage babies is squarely the parent's fault.
first clip: he states the teen pregnancy of palins daughter is a private matter... second clip: he calls brittney spear's parents pin heads for allowing jamie spears (16) to get pregnant. he says all blame should be placed oh the spears parents...
Palin also calls Hillary a "whiner" for complaining about sexism as well. O'reilly says the pregnant daughter is a private issue and shouldn't reflect poorly on Palin and then they show him calling Jamie Spears' mother a pinhead after she got pregnant. An incredible "pinhead."
You could make 6 of those tapes with Barack Obama's own words. Word on the street is that he is going to call the Surge a success on O'Reilly this evening. Now that would complete a nice string of 7-8 flip flops in the last month alone. HILARITY
um, the surge is a success. yes, he hasn't publicly stated that it's a success, but if he does, he's stating the truth. nobody is saying mccain is wrong on everything or bush is bad at everything. they are just wrong on MOST things with america. but at least obama is right on the main thing - we shouldn't gone to iraq in the first place, where mccain is WRONG.
Those are pretty ridiculous and amusing. However, it's also pretty ridiculous that Democrats view flip-flopping as purely a Republican invention and vice versa. In other words, I'd say it's hypocritical to point out the hypocrisy. You know it wouldn't be very hard to point out similar flip-flops on the Dem side this election (off the top of my head I can think of at least three major speakers at the DNC who have flip-flopped just within the last few weeks about whether Obama was ready for the presidency). Still, I can appreciate the entertainment value of it all.
it's politics, what do you expect? everyone is playing the exact same game, and it's called "who can get the most votes?" to me the right-wingers come off with more venom and arrogance when caught in these situations, and that usually garners much more contempt from me.
One thing really jumped out at me re: the Bill O'Rielly (sp?) clip: Jamie Lynn Spears is a role-model super-star for young girls whose parents pimped out for money and fame. They did the same for Britney. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. Bristol Palin is neither famous nor a role model. She doens't seek the limelight. She wasn't pimped out by her parents for gain of money or fame. She's a dumb teenager who made a mistake. Edit: Damn....I'm tired. I didn't even finish what I wanted to say: I do blame Britney and Jamie Lynn's parents. I don't blame Sarah Palin or think that she failed her kid(s). The rest of the video was interesting, especially the Dick Morris and Karl Rove bits. But the Palin/Spears "contradiction" comparison fails, imo.
The Dems need to take back the White House...seriously. I thought I would never say this back when I had Clinton fatigue.
The "surge" worked great when the we figured out that the way to get Iraqis to do what we wanted, was to surge them with money and influence just like the Baath Party figured out 20 years ago. We could have bought a lot cheaper when we had them at a disadvantage but Ambassador L. Paul Bremer III sent the privatized civil service packing. Certainly it was a blunder for Republicans not to recognize the dream scenario staring them in the face; their very own fascist regime. What better way to have your legacy be the equal of Ronald Reagan. How much screwing up will it take for the American People to fire the guys and let someone else take a shot. People get fired all the time, it's liberating and empowering. Just do it. I just hope everybody this year looks at what they did instead of what they say. Every thing the Rovie's do is all about creative lying for maximum impact on the masses. They don't give a crap about anybody but their moned cronies, they will say anything to stay in charge.
