article link Wolves Interview Rockets' Turner Again Houston Rockets assistant coach Elston Turner Updated: Thursday, 30 Jul 2009, 9:25 PM CDT Published : Thursday, 30 Jul 2009, 9:25 PM CDT MARK BERMAN HOUSTON - The Minnesota Timberwolves interviewed Houston Rockets assistant coach Elston Turner again as the club searches for a new head coach. Turner told FOX 26 Sports Thursday his second interview took place Saturday in Las Vegas. Turner said he met again with the Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations David Kahn. "David and I met Saturday in Las Vegas," Turner said. "There are a lot of guys who would like this job and a lot of guys who applied for it. "I'm blessed I was called back." The Timberwolves are looking for a replacement for Kevin McHale. Turner joined the Rockets organization two years ago when Rick Adelman was named head coach. Prior to that Turner worked for Adelman for six years in Sacramento and before that he was with the Portland Trailblazers as an assistant coach for four years. --- I hope he gets it but at the same time I would be sad to see him go.
If it's about money he'll be the cheapest hire out of the remaining candidates (Rambis & Jackson). I think he'll get the job.
I read somewhere today that it's probably Mark Jackson's job to lose. I think it was Dime mag though so take that with a grain of salt.
Friggin David Kahn... what are you wasting time interviewing Turner again for? Just game him the job, The_Yoyo already told you in Vegas that Coach T is the best guy!
Mark Jackson better hope David Kahn hasn't watched a lot of his ESPN/ABC work... or else, mama there goes that job!
Wish Him all the best. It would be a pity to see him go but it is every coaches' dream to someday be a head coach in the NBA. If the opportunity is there, He should grab it.
Said it last time this popped up. This Rockets team cannot afford to lose Turner at this point of its transition. Next season will be a more uptempo style, you will have McGrady, Brooks, and Ariza with something to prove offensively... we need to make sure defense is our identity. If our defense drops even 1 notch its 2 steps back, 1 step forward, for the Adelman regime.
I said that same thing when they were tweeting about him interviewing during summer league He can't even communicate his point to an audience with non-NBA level basketball knowledge... it's just cruel to those youngsters on the Twolves to have to try and understand him!
You don't want to pass up a head coaching job, but at the same time, I feel like he would be setting himself up for failure. The Wolves are very open about the fact they are not close to competing, and that does bode well for a Rookie coach wanting to hold a job. If he's offered, he has to take it. But it will be hard to keep that job long enough to see them become a contender.
I hope he does get the job. Maybe he can convince Kahn to trade Rubio for one of our (HIS) favorite players.
I wish him luck. From a purely selfish perspective, I kind of hope he doesn't get it, but Turner is past due getting a shot at his own team.
In this economy, do you want a coach that preaches the most boring basketball known to mankind even if it means a few more wins.
