Caught tail end of this......siad a decision on his status could be made as soon as tomorrow.

The leading candidate to replace him.......Coach Van of the Comets.

I missed the first part.....can anyone fill me in?

I didn't want to start a new thread so here it is:

I really don't like this part of the season. There are no trade ideas, no preseason hype, no coach philosophy threads, no training camp info. There is nothing new except Murphy's status. Ah, offseason lulls.

hmmm... Given the choice between Coach Van and Bull and Cnthia......

    who would you want?

Im on the record...I want Bull!

he was a little uncomfortable filling in for Calvin last season...but he got better as the rest of the season went on...I think he would do a fine job this year...

Come on Rockets....do the right thing....free Murph!...

    ummm...I mean retain Bull!!!

    ;)

    What's the update on Murph?

And what decision are the Rockets about to make regarding him?

Are they gonna part ways with him or continue with the "LOA" thing?

Channel 13 just reported that sources are telling them that he will be let go as a broadcaster.

This is indeed a sad day in Rocketland. I always wondered how it would be not being able to listen to him while watching my favorite team, and always was saddened by the thought. I was looking forward to him making those crazy comments and seeing how he would react when TMac did his thing this season. To me, he was THE BEST color commentator in the biz and I will miss him dearly.

Damn, I was hoping they would decide to continue the "LOA"

I will miss Murph a helluva lot. No tag team announcer crew was more enjoyable in all of sports.

Of all the things I will miss, what will be missed the most are his horrendous versions of "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" and Bill's reaction afterwards.......

On some occasions, the laughter that produced was a great way to ease the pain of a blowout loss.

Now, those losses will be harder to swallow now that all the laughter is gone......

I think the Rockets just lost every last bit of "tradition" we had left.

Why not Bullard? Why? He did a fine job last season, a Bill and Van C. duo would be so damn boring to watch.

    :(

Calvin will be missed. Not only by us, but I'm sure as well by the organization itself.

Hopefully he can get things sorted out and get his life back to normal.

Calvin was terrible...unfortunate that the circumstances behind him being let go are as they are, but I won't miss him for a second on Rockets' broadcasts. Color commentary is not simply about being a goofball on the air. It's also about knowledge of the game (which I know Calvin MUST have) and analysis (which Calvin hardly ever did). Furthermore, it's about communicating that knowledge in a way that helps fans understand the game more. In my opinion, Hubie Brown was a GREAT color analyst while he was working on TNT. Calvin, again, was terrible...

I TOTALLY disagree. I watch to be entertained. Period. CM provides that. He is a huge fan, genuinely wanting the Rocks to win. Member of the hall of fame. Its hugely unfortunate what he is accused of - which hurts him tremendously. Then again --- the key word here is 'accused'. Which seems quite unfair considering you should initially be considered innocent.
