[Fox 26] Rockets contact Mike James, Speedy Claxton, Fred Jones

    Mark Berman of Fox 26 had a report on the Rockets. He confirmed JVG went to James house last night. James really liked that and it was the first time a head coach came to recruit him including college. Made him feel real wanted. James said he was also contacted by the Mavs, Hawks, and T-Wolves. He said he isn't going the highest bidder. He said he and the Rockets could have a deal if both of them go half way. Berman also said Rockets contacted Claxton and restricted free agent Fred Jones.

    Fred Jones is a restricted free agent, so Indiana can match any offer and after lossing Peja - I am sure they will match most any, especially anything the Rockets could offer.

    This is the thread I've been waiting all day for. We need to make some positive moves so we'll all forget about the last "move" we made....

    Everything is pointing to James being a Rocket next year, which is great IMO. BUT this whole thing kind of reminds me of a few years ago when everything was pointing to Damon Stoudamire being a Rocket too and it didn't happen.

    Let's just get it done ASAP so we can move to the next target.

    Claxton's only 5'11'' but quick, fred jones 6'2'' - I'd rather have Mike James, I'm betting it'll get done soon. I hope theyre contacting some PFs as well.

    I think Claxton is probably just the backup plan to James.

    Getting Jones would be nice, but he's definitely not a PG. The guy can play...but if we grab a PG with the MLE I think we'd have to use the Trade exception to get him if that's even possible.

    I like every player mentioned in that update, especially Freddie Jones.

    Assuming Sura is not coming back, I have a feeling we are going after James to fill in part-time at the point, as much as to play the two.

    I would be in favor of signing a long SG in addition to James. I have a feeling we are going to have to work a sign-and-trade with him anyway, as he is easily worth more than the MLE.

    Hopefully that would free up our MLE to use on another versitile player.

    I like Fred Jones but we probably can't get him like Rocketball said. Claxton maybe,James more likely. I hope we will go after Bonzi and Cassell even if it's going to be hard to get them. Contact Al Harrington too. It can't hurt to ask.
    Edit: Take Cassell off my list since he has resigned with the Clippers.

    I think both Jones and Claxton are just back up plans to James. I like the way James is thinking concerning him and the Rockets meeting half way. But although I think Jones and Claxton are good player, they're just too small. I thought the Rockets were trying to get bigger in the back court. Then again I thought they were trying to younger and more athletic overall, and we all know how that turned out.

    Halfway would mean his the full MLE which is well below what Atlanta can and will offer him. He would be the best value for the MLE and a deparatley needed 3rd option and could come off the bench as instant offense. His length at the 2 is my only concern.

    Work a sign-and-trade with Toronto for James, and offer Wells the MLE.

    Read it more carefully BBM. He rejected their initial offer and when they upped it he resigned with them.
