...to his players. He will bring no knuckleheads to the team. He has coached them before and he will not again.
??? What does that mean? Stro's supposedly kind of "slow", was this an assurance that he thought our guys are not knuckleheads? Dang, Mooch must have really done something this summer... And I wonder how Yao translated that, when I really can't. r-fan-since-81 give us some context here please. Because I just think this is funny.
I think that Van Gundy is refering more to bad attitudes like that of Eddie Griffin, and coach choking players, etc! Swift was virtually replaced by Gasol a long time ago, and his progress just stoped at around that time. Swift may not be an all-star, but if he can get 8 to 10 rebounds while getting 10 points, then he is already much better than any PF the Rocket have paired with Yao Ming. The defense, athleticism, blocks, and steals are Swifts forte.
I think he was refferring to the rumors about the Rockets signing Sprewell. He did coach Sprewell before, and he dont want to coach Sprewell again
This also answers the question as to who makes the decision as to what players to bring in and get rid of...JVG or Dawson.
This was actually what JVG said and it was quoted in the Chronicle today. "I know who I can coach well and I know who I want to coach at this time in my career," he said. "I know every player is not for me and I'm not for every player. One thing I vowed to my players is not to ever infiltrate the locker room with any knuckleheads. My time with knuckleheads has come and gone." Sorry for the paraphrase last night.
Yes, I took it as he will not put up with any knuckleheads in the lockerroom. And i took "knuckleheadds" as any player who wouldn't put forth the professional effort he expects for the copmensation they are receiving.
JVG is straight hood.. knuckleheads get traded MoT - (2 month flu-like symptom LOL) JJ (didn't want to move to SG so tmac could play SF) Boki (he is an excusable knucklehead.. didn't he proclaim "i want more minutes or TRADE ME!" ) Francis -( "I did NOT go to the damn superbowl" while he was seen signing autographs) JVG ain't gonna have no mo' of dat.
I think some of what he means too could be that he's done bringing in old, confrontational, marginal players he coached in the past. Like the great Charles Oakley experiment . . .
