Sorry. Didn't know if this should be in this forum or in the NBA forum now that Greene is a former Rocket. I feel sorry for the kid, but he had to be the sacrificial lamb to get Artest. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/p...n=3&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=6.1.1 HOUSTON -- You have to pardon Sacramento Kings rookie forward Donte Green if he still doesn't have a grip on things. Green landed in Sacramento late Thursday night to join his third NBA team in two months. "It's been crazy," Green said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "Young guy coming out of college, you expect to be drafted and stay with one team. "I have experienced the business side of the NBA very quickly." Green goes to the Kings as part of that blockbuster trade that sent forward Ron Artest to the Houston Rockets. The deal was not finalized until Thursday because Green signed one month ago with the Rockets. NBA rules state a player cannot be traded after he has signed for one month. Green was sent to Houston draft night after being taking by Memphis with the 28th overall pick. He was then traded to the Rockets as part of a three-team deal. Now he is setting up shop on the west coast. "It was hard," Green said. "I had my fiancee come in and she was very comfortable in Houston and she was going to school at the University of Houston. "My best friend was coming to Houston too and he was going to school at St. Thomas." Now all of those plans have changed. "When the trade came about I was upset, but at the end of the day I am happy to be in Sacramento," Green said." The 20 year old 6-9 forward in essence is joining his fourth team in less than a year. He only played one season at Syracuse averaging 17.7 points and 7.2 rebounds as a freshman. When Green heard about the trade he was playing in the same summer league in New York as Artest. "When the trade was made my agent sent me a text message," Green said. "Artest played in the game before me and I shook his hand and then found out about the trade." The two will meet again soon when Green and the Kings take on Artest and the Rockets.
Greene has the potential to be a very good NBA player with some all-star years down the road. You always prefer to win, but his PT should go way up as a result of the trade. Whereas for some reason I always hated Richard Jefferson, and something about Rudy Gay bugs me, I will follow Greene's career and wish him the best.
Welcome to the NBA, rookie. Playing basketball, making millions and getting treated like a rock star comes with that risk. That's just the way things work. Best of luck to him, though.
Whats funny is that Greene was actually playing in the same Nike Pro Summer League as Artest on the same day they got traded. They didn't play against each other but both had games in the same building. Greene found out sometime in the 2nd half on his game. Artest had already left by the time they announced the proposed trade.
Donte Greene will be a force as a bench player, I see him providing a spark like Carl Landry did last season.
That really sucks for him and but it's even worse for his girlfriend and friend. I guess it's meant to happen though. It's probably too late to transfer to a school in California.
Well its good that he learns the business early instead of getting comfortable with one place, buying land, and other stuff...
yep it really sucks for his girlfriend and best friend. Donte will be thousands of miles away in Sacramento. His girl and his best friend will be alone in Houston, they dont know anyone, all they have is themselves. The Real Question is... Will his buddy make a move???
even if he did.. would you make moves back if you were her? She can be with some dude or some dude in the NBA? hmm..
On the Rockets, he'd have been a D-leaguer most of the year. In Sacramento, he'll probably crack the rotation, such as it is. And if he scores 12 ppg and throws in a couple of highlight reel dunks, lots of people on this board are going to be saying FOR YEARS what a mistake this was.
I just think he'll always shoot a low %, and that he won't use his height to his advantage. He'll stand outside and jack up shots most of the time. He is young however, and maybe he'll figure it out. I'll always say drafting him was worth it because A) his role on the Rox would have been just what we needed from the 25th pick and B) he helped bring us Ron Artest. He's probably our best draft pick in the last 3 years, and he never played a single game for us!
