http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/nba/090917_barry_not_return_rockets MARK BERMAN HOUSTON - NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Thursday guard Brent Barry will not be back with the Houston Rockets for the upcoming season. Barry will either be traded or he will retire with the Rockets expected in that case to buy out his contract which had one year remaining. During the 2008-09 season Barry averaged 3.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists for Houston. Barry has played 14 years in the NBA including five years with the Seattle Supersonicks and four years with the San Antonio Spurs. During his career Barry has averaged 9.3 points, 3.2 assists and 3 rebounds
It was pretty obvious that he was done in Houston. Other than Deke, all the old guys with 'alleged" tread left have been pretty bad pick ups. DD
Surely a trade can be worked out. Barry will cost us $4+ mil this season counting tax hit. We can give another team $3 mil to take him off our hands, and the other team makes some money.
I fixed it for you. It was a bad signing given what the team needed and was trying to do. We needed a guy who can slash, defend, and run and we signed Barry early in the summer despite him being to old, slow, and not able to defend in Sa.
great guy, was fun to watch when he was a spur, but he performed way under expectation for me as a rocket.
He was a great guy and good player. Unfortunately we couldnt utilize him the way we thought we would this season..
The rockets seem to miss out every year with their veteren pickups: they're always several years out of their prime and can't contribute as expected Last year's team would have been awesome had we had the: 06 Yao 03 Tmac 03 Artest 98 Barry 08 Scola 06 Chuck Hayes 94 Deke 05 Battier Timing just never seems right Other notable past beyond prime busts: Bonzi Wells Mike James Steve Francis reunion tour Mark Jackson Juwan Howard Clarence Weatherspoon Charles Oakley Scottie Pippen Derek Anderson Vin Baker Glen Rice Rod Strickland
Hope he finds his way back to San Antonio, or any team where he can enjoy himself. He signed last year with some high hopes for himself.
The Clippers and their frugal ownership may be up for such a deal. The Clippers still have a $3 million TPE and such a deal would give the Clips a free trial of Brent Barry, plus make them a cool $1 million in cash. Plus, Barry already lives in the area, so if the Clippers do cut him, he wouldn’t have travel go far...
Good luck to Brent, he was suppose to be one of our floor spacers if Yao and TMac were ever to be healthy and a veteran ballhandler. Oh well, better then getting some doofus like Ricky Davis. Again, Daryl Morey doesn't bat a thousand, but like I said before, he usually rights his wrongs sooner rather then later. He probably told Brent's agent the writing on the wall as far as what direction the Rockets are trying to do in roster maneuvering.
Great guy,no doubt, but I'm afraid your expectations were too high. He had one great playoff game. He had a 5 point average in the playoffs for the Spurs despite that. He played in only 31 regular season games because of the leg injury, and turned 37. DM took a low risk, but the reward was low too. I wish the guy well.
