AP-TX--Fatal Accident (Tops) Deadly wreck near Altair ALTAIR, Texas (AP) - Four students and a toddler died today in a traffic accident near Altair (ahl-TAYR'), about 65 miles west of Houston. The Texas Department of Public Safety says the four girls and the youngster were in a vehicle that went out of control and slid into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer rig. D-P-S spokeswoman Tela Mange says a sixth person in the vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital in Columbus. Details on that person weren't immediately released. The crash happened about one mile from Altair High School, on Highway 90 near the intersection of Highway 71. Officials say all four of the girls attended Rice Consolidated High School in Altair. Authorities say tonight's football game in Altair between Rice Consolidated and Bellville has been postponed until tomorrow due to the tragedy. (Copyright 2004 by The Associated Press. Wow, this story really hits home for me today. We just got a call from my wife's mom, letting us know that her little sister's best friend died in a car accident today on her way home from school. We were just up there in August hung out with this girl quite a bit. She was only 16
