    WHO HATES US?
    By JACK KELLY

    September 13, 2002

THE most courageous, and least reported, Sept. 11
observance took place in Iran. Thousands of Iranians, most
of them young people, braved arrests and beatings by the
secret police to hold candlelight vigils in memory of those
who died in the World Trade Center, in the Pentagon and in
a field in Somerset County, Pa.
"Great American Nation," began a communique from the
Student Mobilization Coordination Committee for Democracy
in Iran (SMCCDI). "The dreadful tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001,
has brought to light our two nations' common goal, the
defeat of religious fascism and terrorism . . . If the
struggle against global terrorism is without imperialistic
endeavors and shortsighted opportunism, (America) has no
better friend and ally than the Iranian people . . . "

SMCCDI reported dozens of arrests and beatings, and that
police had opened fire on demonstrators in the Western
Iranian city of Mahabad. The government blamed the
disturbances on a "few" drug traffickers and CIA agents.
The news media, for the most part, considered this
remarkable demonstration of support for the United States
within a Muslim nation unworthy of note.

The "mainstream" media also pay scant attention to news
which reveals the character of the strain of Islam we are
    fighting.

    * In Tehran on Sept. 8, a man beheaded his 7-year-old
daughter because he suspected she had been raped by her
uncle. An autopsy revealed the little girl was still a
    virgin.

    * Also on Sept. 8, the governor of a Nigerian state refused
to overturn the verdict of a religious court that sentenced
a woman to death by stoning for adultery. (Her lover, who
is married - she is not - has not been punished.)

    * In Baghdad on Aug. 27, a mob beheaded a 70-year-old nun.
In Denmark in July, a Turkish immigrant murdered his
daughter because she wanted to choose her own husband.

    * In Saudi Arabia in March, the religious police refused to
permit the rescue of 14 girls trapped in a school fire,
because the children weren't wearing the head coverings
    required in public.

We are fighting the ugliest form fascism has ever taken on
this planet. The Islamo-fascists mean to suppress all other
religions save their own twisted version of Islam; to
subordinate civil liberties to the dictates of their
    mullahs; to enslave women.

The Islamo-fascists fight uglier than any of the fascists
who preceded them. The Japanese in World War II were cruel
and fanatical. But the kamikazes attacked only military
targets. The Islamo-fascists deliberately target civilians.
The Japanese mistreated their prisoners. The
    Islamo-fascists don't take prisoners.

We are fighting the Islamo-fascists because they attacked
    us.

Americans believe in liberty, democracy and human rights.
But we also believe in non-interference in the internal
affairs of other nations. If the Islamo-fascists had left
us alone, we'd have left them alone. But they didn't. They
won't. And so we must destroy them.

Liberals wonder why the Islamo-fascists hate us so. They
assume that it must, in some measure, be our fault. But it
isn't. The Islamo-fascists hate us because we do not share
their evil. They hate us because the young people in their
countries are attracted to what we stand for, as the brave
    students in Iran bear witness.

We shouldn't wring our hands over the the Islamo-fascists'
hatred. We should wear it as a badge of honor.

The Iranian kids, among others, appreciate this: "The
president of the United States in an unprecedented and
daring speech declared that the people of Iran have no
better friend than you the people of these United States,"
    SMCCDI said in its communique.

By contrast, the contemporary Copperheads have the vision
of ostriches, the courage of rabbits and the compassion of
vultures. We have mourned our dead. Now let us avenge them.

"September", The Shared Grief of the Iranian and
    American Nations

    September 11, 2002

    Great American Nation:
It has been one year since the event that not only opened
the eyes of American People but also awakened the conscious
of all nations to the dangers of Religious Terrorism.

It is said, September 11, the day that thousands of
innocent people were slaughtered by means of religious
madness, was the day that the face of the world changed. As
a result, all freedom loving people of the world will know
their true friends in International arena.

The dreadful tragedy of September 11, 2001, has brought to
light our two nation's common goal, the defeat of religious
fascism and terrorism, and the barbaric ideology of
"Hezbolah". On this day, the American people tasted the
sour taste of Religious Fascism. This heart wrenching
experience for the American people occurred on the day that
Iranian people were remembering their own children's
murders at the hands of Islamic courts. During month of
September 1988, religious terrorists in power in Iran,
fearful of a complete breakdown of the Islamic Republic,
went on a killing spree of freedom loving people of Iran,
and added yet another bloody chapter to the dreadful and
oppressive history of Islamic republic rein on Iran.

No wonder, in less than 48 hours after the terrible
terrorist attack on American soil, thousands of Iranians
took to the streets with lit candles in sympathy with the
survivors, even though faced with immanent harassment and
    persecution by "Hezbolah" thugs.

Furthermore, at the anniversary of the horrifying event of
September 11, there are still those in the Middle East who
celebrate this terrible event. And, those counties which
owe there existence to the Marshall plan after World War
II, instead of siding with the United States of America,
show their support for her enemies, and shore up the
oppressive regime in Iran for their short term and sighted
gain. Again and again, facing certain captivity, beating
and harassment, Iranian people in there thousands are going
to take to the streets chanting "death to Taliban, whether
in Kabul or in Tehran" while paying respect to the memories
of September 11, victims. It is only then one understands
the true meaning of the phrase "you are either with us, or
    against us".

These actions and shows of support for the American people
by the Iranians, in fact are messages that September 11,
2001, disaster is a wound inflicted by religious terrorist,
and is an example of numerous wounds which the blood
thirsty political power holders of the Islamic Republic
have inflicted upon one of the oldest civilization in
history during the last 2 decades. To heal this common
wound and pain requires joint effort on the part of both
countries. We must unit in defeating and eradicating this
religious madness, terror and fascism from not only Iran
but also the whole Middle-East region and the world. As a
response to this call, the President of the United States
in an unprecedented and daring speech declared that the
people of Iran has no better friend than you the people of
these United States of America in their
    struggle for Freedom and Democracy.

The people of Iran especially the students of Iran will
never forget those Members of United States Congress whom
were not influenced and tricked by the Islamic Republic and
whose efforts have exposed the true face of the despotic
regime in Tehran for the American People and Government.

The people of Iran, being the first and largest victims of
religious terrorism, murders of September 1988 is one
example, has come to the realization that the world
coalition against global terrorism is in the best interest
of the Iranian People and Iran, and that is the duty of
each and every freedom loving Iranian to fight against
state terrorism "Hezbolah" and to expand even further the
bond with world powers in pursuit of defeating Global
terrorism, and to expose those countries and political
opportunist such as the European Community and Russia, who
because of their interest, defend the Islamic Republic and
her leaders. Conversely, the American Nation has to realize
that, if the struggle against global terrorism is without
imperialistic endeavors and shortsighted opportunism, she
has no better friend and ally in the Middle East than Iran
    and the Iranian People

The Iranian people are in search of a democratic government
separate from religious fanaticism, and a free and peaceful
society. In pursuit of these goals they ask the American
people to join with them in opposition to any reform or
reformist movement within the Islamic republic, and to ask
of their representative not to embrace or endorse any such
reform in Iran, as they are nothing but an illusion and
they do not represent the Iranian people.

The "Student Movement Coordination Committee for Democracy
in Iran" while honoring all those who perished during the
horrific September 11 attack on America, declares that will
do what ever is necessary to strengthen the bond and
cooperation between the two great nations of Iran and
America in the fight and struggle against Global Terrorism
    and Religious Fanatism.

A Public Call For Remembrance of the 9/11 Tragedy

    September 10, 2002

    Free spirited Iranians,
It has been a year since the terrorist attack on the
military and commercial centers of the United States of
America. Consequences of the events of that fateful day
were so immense and far reaching that they truly will be
known as the turning point in the recent political history
    of the world.

On those days that America was mourning and Iran was
directly or implicitly being called a "haven for
terrorists", we remember how, despite the violent crack
down and repression of the "Hezbollah" forces roaming the
streets, hundreds of our youth poured into the streets and
lit candles in memory of the victims of that tragedy and
showed the world that they sympathized with the families of
the victims and extended their condolences to them.
That night, our youth made it crystal clear that they were
with the world coalition for the elimination of "religious"
    terrorism.

We remember how the reactionary, backwards, Taliban loving,
self-elected rulers of Iran tried to down grade that
humanistic and thoughtful sympathy action of our youth by
calling them a "bunch of candle in hand sissies!," and once
again showed, with their short-sighted vision of reality,
how far away they are from virtue of humanity.

Bravo to you nation who, despite lack of leadership,
embarked in that spontaneous movement, and with your
sensational presence in the streets of the capital, you
saved Iran from a catastrophe, as you showed in the best
possible way, Iranian nation's excellence in love of
    humanity to the free world.

Now, with the first anniversary of 9/11 tragedy upon us, as
SMCCDI expresses its sympathy to the families of the
victims and survivors of that ungodly event, and the
honorable nation of America; it invites all free spirited
Iranians to honor the memory of the victims of that day by
gathering and lighting a candle in front of the main
entrance of the Tehran university and major public squares
in Tehran, and the main squares in other cities and
townships, from 6:00 PM till 9:00 PM, on Wednesday 11
    September.
Also, from all those Iranians who feel they share the
sorrow and pain of the American nation, it is requested
that they turn off all their light on that same night from
10:30 PM till 11:30 PM in a silent, but much telling
gesture of sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved nation
of America. Without a doubt, in this age of high-resolution
satellite cameras, your message of sympathy will reach the
    Americans loud and clear!

Its really a shame the American media(most outlets) are not as fair and balanced as they advertise. I think it was more important to see the celebrations by the people in the Islamic countries. Not all of these oppressed people support terrorism and this is where the media fail to complete their job. I love this post, thanks Azadre.

    Thanks Azadre, good post.

They haven't made the article available on the search utility at the Post yet, but it is very interesting. I have always understood that aside from the dabacle with the Shah, the US and Iran have always had very close ties. I'm glad that some have survived.

It's interesting. Many Americans expect people in Arab countries to protest against their governments in defense of America. If they don't, they are considered fanatics or weak. Yet, US citizens who would protest against American policies are labeled un-American.

By the same token, the Israeli governement is a hard-line, right wing government but, because they aren't hard line against us, we refuse to condemn actions that we might consider unacceptable in others.

I don't personally agree with protesting against the US in the Arab world, nor am I all that un-sympathetic to Israel, but it seems like we choose our sides very conveniently.
