Honestly the NBA needs to do somthing about fouls on big men when guards throw thier body's against them. Thats basically what Kobe was doing in game one. It should be a no call or offensive foul but I consistantly see them call it on the big men.
For the first half of the season, Yao and Howard were victimized by this tactic to a ridiculous extent. SVG exploded publicly about it and the foul calls on Howard slowed down. Yao blew up (well, by Yao's standards) after a road game at Utah and the calls on him slowed down. If fact, I thought Yao got away with quite a few fouls for the next few games after that. If anyone out there still doesn't believe public lobbying affects referees, wake up and smell the coffee. Now that it's playoff time, Kobe, PP and players like that will get a lot of those calls. Just the way it is. I agree the NBA needs to change things. It should not be a foul when the offensive player just into the defender for the sold purpose of drawing a whistle.
Let me repeat this again: NBA is the only professional sports league where you can actually draw a foul. Worse yet, NBA is the only professional sports league where you can initiate contact to draw a foul. Ice on the cake, NBA is the only professional sports league where you can deliver an intentional hard foul to "send a message", without worrying about consequences. The biggest joke, offensive players can rape defensive players if he's in the "restricted area", but defensive player will be called a foul upon not cooperating.
I agree...but if they change it, i would rather it be a non-call. I do not want to see the paint flop fest that goes on in international play.
It depends. Sometimes the offensive player should be called for a foul when what they do is ridiculous or particularly out of control. But as you say, most of the time a non-call would rectify the problem.
Yeah, it defeats the purpose of flailing in there uncontrolled and just heaving a shot up in hopes to get the foul called. If you do it alot and keep throwing up bad missed shots you are hurting your team. Wouldn't it be nice if players drove the lane actually trying to make a shot instead of charging thru the defender.
