It's no worse than tobacco and alcohol. If it was legalized like cigarettes and alcohol, they can tax and regulate it like alcohol and tobacco. I can't stand either one.

As long as mar1juana is included in the smoking ban at restaurants. I am good. If they tax it, that's even better.

just look no farther than California to see the medical cannabis industry thriving. Decriminalization laws protect Californians from going to jail and legal medical mar1juana allows a user to avoid the awkward process of "waiting for the man" to call back and go meet in some back alley drug deal.

it is regulated, controlled, safe, and legal.

Agree that it should be decriminalized everywhere. However, you don't want to be high if someone or something needs immediate attention - such as, a family member who needs to be rushed to the hospital.

We also tend to forget that regulating and decriminalizing something doesn't erase the black market for that product if you tax the hell out of it. For example, in many countries, fake cigarettes are sold in the streets while the "originals" are sold in the stores.

Can the government ensure that the price will remain the same or better? I don't know... but if so, then I don't see any harm as long as everyone accepts personal responsibility for its effects.

I like getting stoned, but I don't want all you other people out there stoned.
You'll screw up, you'll drive badly, you won't work, if you have kids you have already taken on a responsibility that you can't afford to be distracted from.

I want you all to be honest, God fearing, hard working, charity minded, responsible citizens. I'm not going to be but I want you to be.

I can afford my illegal pot and an attorney if I happened to get caught in between my supplier and my house. Other than that I'm safely hidden away and at a most minimal risk. I just need a guy that delivers.

So you don't think society can handle the legalization of mar1juana? It can't be worst then the consequences of having legal alcohol. I also rather have a stoner behind the wheel, rather then an alcoholic.

At the end of the day mar1juana is still going to cost money (as does everything else if life). So if you want money, you have to work for an employer, who can conduct inexpensive urine tests for mar1juana.

I've said it before: Legalize it, but don't ever ban pre-employment tests for it and the ability of employers to discriminate against potheads. I support the right of anyone to be a stoner, so long as I don't have to risk hiring one inadvertantly. (I fully understand that some will be offended by the fact that I stereotype potheads as lazy, but it's well-earned.)

Part of the allure of drugs is separating oneself from the confines and expectations of regular society; the 'outlaw' subcultures: hippie ism, cosmic cowboy, metalhead, goth, emo or whatever.

i actually agree with this somewhat. i think employers should be free to discriminate against potheads, alcoholics or anyone that could potentially cause negative harm to their business.

that said, i think the lazy stereotype is not a completely true one. out of the people i work with, i know for a fact that at least five of them partake on a regular basis. it has not once affected their ability to do their job, nor has it ever caused negative consequences in my performance. i've known lawyers, accountants, surveyors, engineers, and it guys among other professions who smoke on a regular basis and they are very productive and motivated employees or business owners.

This is actually an interesting point. I wonder if there's any research on what motivates people initially to use pot. Is it primarily for the high, or partly to do something rebellious? And if it were legal and not rebellious, would people turn to a harder drug instead? In otherwords, could it serve as a sort of anti-gateway drug by being illegal?

Obviously, for most people, it's probably simply the high. But I wonder what portion of users would fit the other category.

I heard a judge say the other day that finding mar1juana in a car nowadays is only a matter of tossing a stone into traffic and searching the car it hits.

There's a lot of people smoking weed out there. A lot. Do yourselves a favor, smokers. Don't smoke in your vehicles, don't drive if you smell of weed, and if you're carrying the stuff keep it in your trunk in a locked container.

I have had the same experience. With that said, I have also known people who partook on a regular basis that didn't want to do anything but smoke pot.

Like any other substance, it depends on the person.
