http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2003/0326/1529650.html ATLANTA -- Former Houston Rockets center Ralph Sampson was charged with failing to pay more than $51,000 in child support. Sampson, 42, surrendered Tuesday and was released on $40,000 bond after appearing in court. He is to appear at hearings in Richmond, Va., on April 7 and in Charlottesville, Va., on April 9. Sampson was indicted last week in Richmond for failing to pay $21,628 in support for a daughter who lives in Falmouth, Va., according to court documents. He is charged separately for failing to pay $29,542 for a daughter who lives in Charlottesville. Sampson, who lives in suburban Atlanta, was represented by a federal defender who said the child support was paid with a wire transfer a few days earlier. The 7-foot-4 Sampson starred in college at Virginia and was the first pick of the 1983 draft by the Rockets. According to court documents, Sampson was paid $539,060 in 1999 and $134,765 in 2000 by the Sacramento Kings. In 2001, he earned $11,207 while employed by a number of organizations.
He should pay it. My mom got seperated from my dad when i was 3, and he never paid one dime to help her out. Its not fair for a parent to have to pay for everything. Especially when the other parent doesnt give emotional support either.
Damn... I don't think Hakeem has those kind of money problems... I liked Ralph back in the day, but my, how times have changed...
How much does a 10 day contract pay? $50,000?? Hell, he can't be any worse than Collier. Sign him up! A second ten day contract would run him to the final day of the season. He'll have that debt paid in no time!
I definitely think he should have paid it, but I think the most improtant thing now, is not how easy or severe things go for Sampson. I think the most important thing is that his Child gets the money. Looking at the 2001 earnings, Sampson may have problems coming up with that money. I'm sure he won't get any ten day contracts, but anything that can help him get the money seems like a good thing to me.
Yes the Child does come first. I'm sure he has some rich friends who will gladly give him the money for the child's sake. What he did was wrong and after the remaining parent and child get the money, there needs to be a type of punishment for him. not that i have any ideas.
get Cato to pay the $51,000, that would be the first time he has done something good for his money!!!!
